Like Reggie Jackson and the month of October, the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox will forever be linked together in baseball lore thanks to their epic meeting in the 1986 World Series.
But as interleague rivals, contests between the two have been relatively rare. The two lock horns once again in a four-game series in Boston, beginning Monday night (July 27) at 7:35 pm ET.

With both teams making a 1-2 start to the season, this series gives both a good chance to get back over .500. The Mets will be urgently seeking a win, especially after Sunday evening’s 14-1 humbling at the hands of the Atlanta Braves.

The Red Sox may be even more desperate, though, dropping two of three to the lowly Baltimore Orioles, including Sunday’s 7-4 setback.
With Josh Osich making his first career start for Boston, New York is an understandable -112 favorite in the Mets vs Red Sox odds.
Welcome Back
Monday’s game will likely be a source of mixed emotions for Mets starter Michael Wacha.
The right-hander makes his first appearance at Fenway since the 2013 World Series, where he made two starts as his former team, the St. Louis Cardinals, lost in six games.

Wacha made both his starts at Fenway, winning Game 2 by going six innings in a 4-2 win to become the second-youngest pitcher in St. Louis history to win a World Series game. He also started Game 6, lasting just 3.2 innings after giving up all six earned runs in a 6-1 defeat in the deciding game.
The 29-year-old will be looking to take full advantage of the injuries to Noah Syndergaard and Marcus Stroman by moving up in the starting rotation and making his first start of his first season with the Mets.

Wacha went 6-7 in 24 starts last year in St. Louis, where he put up an earned-run average of 4.76 with a career-worst WHIP of 1.563.

Given their 1-2 start to the season, maybe it was no surprise to see the Red Sox wait until Sunday evening to announce their starter for Monday’s game. When they finally did announce who will take the mound at Fenway, there was no starter to be found.
In his place will be Josh Osich, who makes his first career start after 218 appearances in relief.

The left-hander will be Boston’s first opener this season, and will likely only go one or two innings before making way for the bullpen. Figuring chief amongst those relievers will likely be Zack Godley, a right-hander who had a 5.97 ERA in 33 appearances last year for both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays.

Osich has pitched one inning so far this season, striking out one batter and giving up one hit during Saturday’s 7-2 loss to Baltimore. In six years in the majors, the 31-year-old has a 4.86 ERA with a WHIP of 1.386.
