  • On Wednesday, February 17th at 3:15 PM EST, Man City visit Goodison Park in a showdown with seventh place Everton
  • Man City made easy work of Tottenham at the weekend, winning the match by a score of 3-0, while the Toffees dropped points at home to 18th place Fulham
  • Currently, Manchester City are favored heavily with a moneyline of -286

With a game in hand, Man City could go ten points above the rest of the table if they win Wednesday’s Everton vs Man City match. They embarrassingly dismantled Jose Mourinho’s Spurs on Saturday and look like they are playing at peak performance. However, their midweek opponents also beat Tottenham recently, in a thrilling 5-4 home result in the FA Cup. Nonetheless, it is hard to take Everton seriously when their form is as volatile as the stock market.

In their defeat to Fulham, Everton did not even register a shot on target until the 76th minute. Additionally, playmaker James Rodriguez picked up a knock at the end of the match which could be a major setback. Manager Carlo Ancelloti also added that the medical staff will need to check on Allan, Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin before their next Premier League fixture. If Everton will be missing these key pieces against Man City, it might not be much of a contest at all.

Can Man City Keep Their Winning Streak?

It has almost been three months since Man City’s last defeat that came to the hands of Tottenham in mid-November. Pep Guardiola’s side is unbeaten in 15 Premier League games, while also winning 11 in a row. They looked quite unstoppable this weekend as Ilkay Gundogan added two goals to his already impressive tally this season. However, Man City might have to devise a strategy to win, without their top German midfielder. Gundogan picked up what appeared to be a groin injury this weekend and it is unclear if Pep is willing to risk playing him on Wednesday.

While Gundogan’s absence could hurt the Citizens, they have plenty of eager players waiting for their turn in the side. Furthermore, to be frank, their offense has scored 18 goals in their last three games, it looks quite promising that they will be able to manage. On the defensive side, Man City have the best stronghold in the league by a country mile, only conceding 14 times during the 2020/21 campaign. Overall, it will be very interesting to see if Everton can break down their neighbor’s walls.

The Toffees Are Improved, But Not Drastically Changed

Everton fully deserves their spot in the table this year, and honestly could even climb up a couple of spots with the improvements they have made. Calvert-Lewin’s impact has been incredible under Ancelloti, and newcomers like Rodriguez and Allan and provided a newfound depth into the Toffee’s dressing room. However, they still are the Everton of old in some aspects. Despite their changes in talent and culture, they still cannot manage to really set out on a great run of form.

In fact, since the beginning of the season, you could make the argument that Everton have been average at best. As they face Man City, they will be nervous looking at their recent history against the eventual champions. They have not beaten Man City since 2017 and have given up 13 goals in the past five games alone. Given Everton’s scorelines as of late, I find it hard to believe they will do much good against a truly stingy Man City defense.

Everton vs Man City Best Bet

In Man City’s last 14 games, they have won by two goals or more 12 times, which equates to roughly 85-percent. I made this pick in their last match against Tottenham, and I am making it again for Wednesday’s Premier League battle with Everton. Man City are not going to just win this game, but they will win it handily. Guardiola and company are on a dominant march to lift the Premier League trophy again, and Everton has no shot of standing in their way and forcing them to drop points.

My Pick: Manchester City -1.5 (+100)
