Pedro Campa was initially supposed to be fighting Adrien Broner here until Campa had to withdraw due to an illness.
Adrien Broner’s Return After Two Years
Despite his prominence and name value in the boxing world, Adrien Broner has gone winless in the last four years. In that time, he has posted an 0-2-1 record.
His last outing was a unanimous decision loss to Manny Pacquiao in their January 2019 WBA welterweight world title fight.
During this hiatus, Adrien Broner has been making news for his personal issues including, a DUI arrest in March.
Broner looks to redirect his path and return to the kind of form that led him to become a four-division world champion throughout his career.

The return of Broner is obviously the primary focus on a promotional level, and it’s pretty clear who the A-side is here.
Santiago is competing outside of Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic for the first time but, he seems confident as he now has the eyes of the collective boxing world firmly fixed upon him.
Who is Jovanie Santiago?
Jovanie Santiago enters this bout as a late notice replacement and is a largely unheralded underdog. There are certainly some Rocky movie connotations here with the backdrop of Santiago being a gardener and tow truck driver between fights.
The classic story of the hardworking, everyman boxer finally getting the huge fight under the spotlight.
This could be a life-changing moment for Santiago and he seems to be galvanizing his resolve with the pressure rather than wilting to the heat of the moment.

Broner is understandably the favorite but there are a lot of positives with Santiago. Jovanie Santiago has close to a hundred amateur bouts to his credit and has an unblemished record so far as a professional.
Both men have a decent amount of power in their hands, and it will be interesting to see Broner drop back down here. Many pundits thought that his time at 147 pounds didn’t best serve him, he’s taking a fight at 140 pounds here, and I think Broner’s ability to finish a fight is more pronounced in this division.
Broner vs Santiago Tale of the Tape
33-4-1 | Record | 14-0-1 |
24 | Knockouts | 10 |
5’6 | Height | 5’7 |
69″ | Reach | 70″ |
Carlos Molina, Paul Malignaggi, Khabib Allakhverdiev | Significant Wins | Juan Zegarra, Gustavo David Vittori, Ivan Cano |
Orthodox | Stance | Orthodox |
I think this is the best possible time Santiago could be getting Broner what with the layoff and all. But I still don’t like his chances here.
In summation, I think Broner secures a stoppage win. I think his power translates much better in this weight category.
Broner winning via TKO or KO (-110) between rounds 4-6 (+450) is my call, and I think seeking out available prop bets there would be the move.
Pick: Adrien Broner (-750)
