  • A 2-1 mid-week win over Athletic Bilbao has sent Atletico Madrid six points clear of second-place Barcelona with 12 matches to play
  • Looking to return to the win column, Real Madrid hosts Elche with eight points separating Los Blancos from their cross-town rivals in first place

Real Madrid are overwhelming -500 favorites against Elche on Saturday (10:15 am ET) in La Liga Matchday 27; while Zidane’s side dwarfs its visitors in terms of budget and talent, the Franjiverdes have earned two wins in four and may not be a pushover.

Atletico Madrid is near-even money (-104) for its trip to struggling Getafe in the Madrid suburbs on Saturday (3:00 pm), but will have to be focused on the task at-hand without the looming distraction of Chelsea, Sevilla or Real Betis — all away — on the near horizon.

The weekend will wind down in style on Sunday, as Sevilla hosts Real Betis (4:00 pm ET) in El Gran Derbi with the hosts in free fall and the visitors on a four-game winning streak.

Reeling from a one-sided European exit at the hands of PSG, Barcelona is a massive -480 favorite at home against Huesca in the final match of the round Monday (4:00 pm).

Real Madrid vs Elche Prediction

With title hopes hanging by a thread, Real Madrid (16-6-4) hosts Elche (5-9-11) at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano.

Draws against Sociedad (1-1) and Atleti (1-1) have seen Zidane’s side slide further out of the race for first, while Elche has won its last two home matches to temporarily escape the relegation zone.

With an 8-1-3 record at home — and two clean sheets in its last three league matches at the di Stefano — Real Madrid is consistent and it’s extremely unlikely that Elche (road: 2-3-7 with 0.83 goals/game) will manufacture a result.

Elche’s inability to score on the road against quality teams (two goals from five away matches versus top half teams) lends further credibility to the ‘Real to Win to Nil’ play — already strong as Real has posted a clean sheet win in four of its last six league matches at home.

Pick: Real Madrid to Win to Nil (-136)

Getafe vs Atletico Madrid Prediction

Getafe (7-6-13) is in free fall, and Atletico Madrid (19-5-2) will expect nothing less than three points from their clash at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez this weekend.

It’s a matchup that has simply been dominated by Atleti, which has not allowed a single goal in 19 head-to-head meetings against Getafe dating back to 2011.

The Rojiblancos have won the last seven meetings by either 1- or 2-nil scorelines, and have not lost a match to Saturday’s hosts since November 2011.

Getafe has been shut out in five of seven entering Saturday’s contest, and an ugly 1-1-6 record since the start of February has sent the club spiralling towards the relegation battle.

The Under 2.5 isn’t even worth considering at -265, but the Under 1.5 could be in play at plus-money and has hit in five of the last nine meetings between the two clubs.

Pick: Under 1.5 (+125)

Sevilla vs Real Betis Prediction

A pair of league losses and exits in both the Champions League and Copa del Rey have made it a somber few weeks for Sevilla (15-3-7), whose top-three ambitions have also been torpedoed.

Pride will be on the line for Julen Lopetegui’s side against a surging Real Betis (13-3-10) in La Liga Matchday 27, which is enjoying its best season in some time under Manuel Pellegrini and may be able to make a push for Europe down the stretch.

The two sides drew 1-1 at Betis back on January 2; both teams have scored (BTTS) in three of the past four Sevilla derbies — and six of eight — making the -118 BTTS play very attractive.

Pick: BTTS (-118)
