  • The Chicago White Sox are -115 road favorites over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night
  • Lance Lynn (10-3, 2.26) is scheduled to pitch for the White Sox against rookie Alek Manoah (5-2, 3.34)
  • Odds and analysis can be found below with a prediction

Two teams struggling in recent days match up when the Chicago White Sox visit the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:07pm ET Monday, in the opener of a four-game series at Rogers Centre.

The White Sox (72-53) have lost three of their last four games but still lead the American League Central by 9.5 games over Cleveland and are favored Monday.

The Blue Jays (64-68) are on a four-game losing streak, have dropped seven of their last nine and have lost three series in a row for the first time all season.

White Sox vs Blue Jays Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Chicago White Sox -115 -1.5 (+140) Over 9 (+100)
Toronto Blue Jays -105 +1.5 (-160) Under 9 (-120)

Odds as of August 22nd at DraftKings.

Both teams opened at -110 on the moneyline and the White Sox are now -115 favorites. It should be a perfect night for the Rogers Centre roof to be open with the temperature expected to be 82 degrees at first pitch and wind from the north northwest at 12 mph.

Probable Pitchers

Lance Lynn (10-3 2.26) will start for the White Sox against rookie Alek Manoah (5-2, 3.34) in what should be an interesting matchup of old and young.

Lynn hasn’t lost since June 19 and is 3-0 with a 2.44 ERA in his last nine starts. He pitched four innings against the Oakland Athletics last Wednesday in Chicago and did not factor in the decision before ejected by third base umpire Nic Lentz after throwing his belt during a foreign substance check.

Lynn vs Manoah

Lance Lynn
VS
Alek Manoah
10-3 Record 5-2
2.26 ERA 3.34
2.62 xERA 3.45
1.06 WHIP 1.08
3.53 SO/W 3.32

Lynn said Lentz came late to the dugout and while he was trying to get attention from the training staff. The Athletics managed only one run on three hits as Lynn struck out four and walked three.

Lynn has 12 quality starts in 22 outings this season and the White Sox are 14-8 when he is on the mound. On the road, the big right-hander is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA in eight starts. He has a 6-2 record with a 2.70 ERA in 14 starts at night.

Despite allowing one run in seven innings to the White Sox on June 9 in Chicago – also facing Manoah — Lynn did not factor in the decision. Lynn is 1-3 with a 4.73 ERA in eight career games (seven starts) against the White Sox and has lost both outings at Rogers Centre despite a fine 2.70 ERA.

Manoah had won three consecutive starts until having the worst game of his young career last Tuesday in Washington. He was tagged for seven runs (six earned) in six innings in a loss to the Nationals while allowing six hits, striking out two and walking one.

The Blue Jays are 8-4 in Manoah’s starts and he has recorded six quality starts this season. He is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in two starts at Rogers Centre and 3-2 with a 3.55 ERA in nine night starts.

In that June 9 game, Manoah also had a no-decision while giving up two runs (one earned) in five innings in his first career appearance vs the White Sox.

Anderson Should Return

White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson is expected to return to the lineup. He sat out the last two games, both losses to the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, with general leg soreness.

Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers

White Sox Batters Batting Average vs Manoah
Andrew Vaughn .500
Tim Anderson .333
Yoan Moncada .333
Jose Abreu .000
Jake Lamb .000
Blue Jays Batters Batting Average vs Lynn

Bo Bichette .400
Marcus Semien .364
Corey Dickerson .300
Randal Grichuk .300
Vladimir Guerrero .250
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. .167
Reese McGuire .167
Teoscar Hernandez .100

Anderson is on a 10-game hitting streak, going 19-for-49 (.388) with four home runs, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien is a .364 lifetime hitter against Lynn, going 8-for-22 with three doubles and a home run. Right fielder Randal Grichuk has two homers off Lynn in nine plate appearances.

Utility infielder Santiago Espinal has been getting most of the playing time at third base for the Blue Jays with Cavan Biggio on the disabled list. In 49 games and 127 plate appearances since June 1, Espinal is hitting .339 with five doubles, two homers and nine RBIs.

White Sox-Blue Jays Pick

The White Sox took two of three from the Blue Jays from June 8-10 in Chicago and are 9-4 in their last 13 games in Toronto.

However, Manoah is quickly establishing himself as one of the better young pitchers in the AL. Look for him to bounce back strong following the debacle in Washington.

The Pick: Blue Jays -105
