The Genesis Invitational boasted a stacked field before the week with the top-eleven golfers on the planet teeing it up. However, it’s 32nd ranked Joaquin Niemann that’s blitzing the course, setting the 54-hole record at this prestigious championship at 19-under-par.
Entering the tournament, both Niemann and Cameron Young, who is his closest pursuer, were not among the favorites to lift the trophy come Sunday evening.
Just five players are within eight shots of top spot, though the 23-year-old Chilean left the door slightly open Saturday, as he finished the final eight holes at 2-over-par. Should he falter, big names Like Viktor Hovland, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa occupy the third through fifth places on the leaderboard.
Read on to see the updated odds and the best bets heading into Sunday’s final round.

Can Joaquin Niemann Be Stopped?
It’s hardly a shock to see that tournament leader Joaquin Niemann is first in a lot of stats this week, given how superbly he’s been playing. Opening up the tourney with back-to-back rounds of 63, he then shot a round of 68 to fend off his challengers on moving day. For the week, the superstar in the making is first in birdies (20), with two eagles as well.
Joaquin Niemann: -19, best 54-hole score in @thegenesisinv history
With win tomorrow, he would be:
– Youngest winner in tournament history (23)
– 1st wire-to-wire winner at Riviera since Hal Sutton at 1983 PGA
– 1st wire-to-wire winner of this event since Charlie Sifford (1969)— Justin Ray (@JustinRayGolf) February 19, 2022
He’s also first in SG: approaching the green and tee-to-green through 54 holes, and tied for first in putts per green in regulation. To say he’s been playing lights out would be an understatement.
If there’s anything to nitpick about him it’s that he has just the lone PGA Tour victory to date (2019 Greenbrier), and he’s T-48th in final round scoring average. The player directly behind him, three shots back, is Cameron Young, who hasn’t had many close calls in his young career either, though he was T-2nd at this season’s Sanderson Farms Championship.
To this point there hasn’t been much to expect a full blown meltdown, though Niemann wasn’t as sharp down the stretch Saturday to give the field some hope. His -285 odds aren’t enticing in any way, but given that he’s six clear of third place, he’s got an amazing chance for win number two.
2022 Genesis Invitational Best Live Value Picks
- Justin Thomas (+1800): Justin Thomas seems primed to get back into the winner’s circle, though he has a steep hill to climb. He’s been solid all week, ranking fourth in strokes gained tee-to-green. He’s had a chance at the championship here in the past, taking the 54-hole lead in 2019 before finishing runner-up. Thomas has been playing well coming in, with top-10’s in four of his last five starts.
- Collin Morikawa (+3500): Somewhat surprising Collin Morikawa’s odds are nearly double that of JT given that he’s just a stroke behind him on the board. In three of his victories, he’s shot 66 or better on the final day. First in final round scoring average this season, with rounds of 62, 69, 62.
