Expect a somewhat ornery and agitated Oilers squad to take the ice on Sunday, February 19th when Connor McDavid and company visit the Colorado Avalanche in a rematch of last year’s Western Conference final.
The Oil have dropped three in a row, including the last two in shootouts. Having taken the last five games between these two sides, the Avalanche are -125 moneyline favorites when they host Jay Woodcroft’s offensive powerhouse.
Faceoff is slated for 3:00 pm ET from Ball Arena in Denver. For the rest of the Oilers vs Avalanche odds, check out the table below as we also offer up our best bet and pick for this clash.

Oddsmakers have this game pretty even with the Avs slight favorites. At -125 on the moneyline, Colorado has an implied win probability of 55.56%, while the Oilers probability is 48.78% to snap their five-game losing skid in the Mile High city.
Oilers Can’t Keep Puck out of Net
With the runaway leader in the Hart Trophy odds, and top two scorers in the league, it’s no secret that the Oilers lead the league in scoring. Connor McDavid has already hit the century mark in points with one-third of the season still left to play.
However, their defense and goaltending still leave a lot to be desired and that’s why they sit 4th in the Pacific Division and aren’t a guarantee to even qualify for the postseason. Over the last week, Edmonton lost all three of their contests, giving up 16 goals in the process.
With a loss to Colorado, they would suffer a season-high, 4th consecutive defeat. A 5-4 shootout loss to the Rangers on Friday was particularly hard to swallow, considering they were up 4-1 after the first period before squandering the lead.
Chris Kreider scored twice, and the Rangers rallied for their seventh straight win, 5-4 in a six-round shootout against the Oilers.

Taking into account their high-octane offense and below-average defense, there is no better team to bet the over on than the Oilers. They are 35-13-3 when picking them to hit the over this year, providing a 31.58% return on investment.
Makar Back for Avalanche After Another Injury Scare
It’s no stretch to say that Cale Makar is the 2nd best player in the NHL next to the man he’ll try to contain on Sunday afternoon that wears number 97 for the Oilers. The reigning Conn Smythe trophy winner is one of the main reasons Colorado remains amongst the favorites in the Stanley Cup odds despite a subpar season so far.
However, injuries have forced him out of action a few times this season and he got another scare in Colorado’s 4-1 victory Saturday afternoon against the Blues. After missing the previous four contests with a head injury, the Norris Trophy odds contender was momentarily forced out of action after a collision with Alexey Toropchenko, but luckily he finished the game..

With so many dynamic players in the lineup, it’s somewhat surprising to see Colorado is one of the best bets in the league to hit the under this year, going below the total in 31 of their games while going over just 18 times. They are top 10 in the league in goals against despite losing last year’s starter, Darcy Kuemper in the offseason.
Oilers vs Avalanche Pick and Prediction
This is not the time of year for Edmonton to go through their longest losing streak of the season. They’ll be in tough against a Colorado team that’s beaten them in eight of their last nine matchups.

Although they’ve owned the head-to-head battle of late, four of Colorado’s eight wins over those nine games have needed overtime or a shootout, so you can understand why the NHL odds for this one are so tight.
Edmonton has an extra day of rest on their side and should be energized to end their losing skid against Colorado while preventing a fourth straight loss. Our prediction is that the buck stops here, no pun intended, so pick the road side to score a slight upset in the Oilers vs Avalanche odds.
Pick: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (+105)
