Very few hockey fans expected the Colorado Avalanche vs Dallas Stars First Round series to be a short one. In fact, the opposite is true, and it’s proven prophetic, with both squads winning three games. The 7th and deciding game is for all the marbles, with the winner advancing to the second round, and the loser eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In the Stanley Cup odds, Colorado’s best price of +800 can be found at DraftKings, while Dallas is +1500 at Caesars.

In the regular season, Colorado was 49-29-4 for 102 points, third in the Central Division. Dallas was 50-26-6 for 106 points, second in the Central. Big D eliminated their adversaries in the second round last postseason. Can they do it again? Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 pm ET, with coverage on ABC and ESPN+ in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada.

In the goaltending battle, Stars netminder Jake Oettinger has the better save percentage in the series (.909) compared to his counterpart Mackenzie Blackwood (.899), though the latter’s goals against average is slightly better.

Colorado has been able to muster more goals, ranking sixth in the postseason, while Dallas is lagging behind at eleventh. However, Big D does have ten snipes the last two contests.

Avs superstar Nathan Mackinnon has racked up ten points in six outings, tied second-most points in the postseason (Connor McDavid with 11). No other Avalanche player has more than five points. Former Avalanche Mikko Rantanen paces the Stars with eight playoff points. In the first four battles, he had no goals and just one assist – but in the last two times squaring off, he’s been on fire, with two goals and five assists.

COL Avalanche vs DAL Stars Injury News

The Avalanche are relatively healthy, with only forward (Ross Colton) missing the last five games with a lower-body injury, and Head Coach Jared Bednar had previously stated he was unlikely to return to this series. The Avs have been getting a massive bonus with captain Gabriel Landeskog returning following a three-year hiatus after a severe knee injury. He’s chipped in with one goal and three assists in four games.

Two critical pieces for Dallas who haven’t laced them up all series won’t be making a grand entrance for this final matchup.

Jason Robertson is still “week-to-week” with a knee ailment, and blueliner Miro Heiskanen (knee) is also ruled out.

In the Avalanche vs Stars odds, the road team are -165 favorites, giving them a 62.26% implied win probability to eliminate their Central Division rivals.

A $165 bet would profit $100 if they’re victorious. Conversely, a $100 wager on +140 Stars would return $140. Our SBD formula has the Stars emerging victorious 3.33-3.00, meaning Dallas would cover the spread and pull off the moneyline upset, and the over 5.5 goal total (-105) would hit.

Avalanche vs Stars Game 7 Prediction

I have two plays for this 7th and deciding duel. First is the home team being a +140 underdog. Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer is a whopping 8-and-0 in Game 7’s in his career, an NHL record, while Avs coach Jared Bednar is 0-and-3. Additionally, Dallas has won two of three at home in the series against Colorado, and three of four this season on home ice.

Then I love the over 5.5 goal total line of -105. The past few games of this series, the line was over 6 goals, and selecting the over was the favorite. This time, perhaps because books expect a tight checking affair, they have over 5.5 goals as the underdog play.

In a ridiculous ten straight battles between these two rivals in Dallas, there have been six or more combined goals scored. That’s a massive sample size, and if you’re so inclined to parlay Stars ML and the over goal total hitting, it’s +378 at Caesars.
