The 149th running of the Preakness Stakes took place on Saturday, May 18th, 2024, at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD. We tracked the Preakness Stakes odds for every fleet-footed thoroughbred as they became available. The graph on this page was generated by calculating the average from our most trusted racebooks.

The opening favorite was the Bob Baffert-trained horse Muth, at +350. Prior to his win at Churchill Downs, Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan was getting +4500 to win the Preakness Stakes, but ultimately got +250 just days before the race. Ultimately, the race was won by Seize the Grey, who closed at +1500 before the race, would go on to win by 2 1/4 lengths over Mystik Dan and Catching Freedom.

Notes on the 2024 Preakness odds movement in the build-up to the race include:

  • [May 17] With a forecast of rain set to hit Pimlico, odds are unchanged with just a day to go before the Preakness Stakes. Mystik Dan, who ran well in the mud at the Southwest Stakes on February 3rd, remains the favorite at +250.
  • [May 15] Preakness favorite Muth has been scratched! After developing a fever not long after arriving at Pimlico, the Bob Baffert-owned horse was removed from the 149th Preakness this Saturday. This opens the door wide open for Derby winner Mystik Dan to take the next step towards winning the Triple Crown. Mystik Dan remains as a +250 favorite on the morning of May 15th.
  • [May 13] The nine horses participating in the Preakness have been announced & it’s Muth who opens as the favorite at +160. This is the first time since 2012 that the winner of the Kentucky Derby has not opened as the Preakness favorite. However, Derby winner Mystik Dan is right behind Muth, with odds at +250.
  • [May 9] In the days following the Kentucky Derby, trainers for derby participants Forever Young, Resilience, Sierra Leone, and T O Password have all announced their horses will skip the Preakness. There’s sure to be an odds shakeup following the post announcement next Monday.
  • [May 4] The second Preakness Stakes futures pool closed the day before the 2024 Kentucky Derby, with Bob Baffert’s Muth listed as the 7/2 favorite.
  • [Mar 2] At +250, Nysos is the earliest of favorites in the first Preakness Stakes futures pool, followed by Sierra Leone (+1400) and Dornoch (+1800).
