The defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers wasted no time taking control of the Eastern Conference Final, rolling to a 5-2 victory in Game 1 at Lenovo Center. Now the Carolina Hurricanes face a must-win situation in Game 2 on Thursday to avoid falling into a 2-0 series hole before heading to Florida.

Despite the lopsided score, the Canes actually controlled play for large stretches, outshooting Florida 33-20 and winning 60% of faceoffs. The difference? Special teams and finishing. Florida went 2-for-3 on the power play while Carolina’s usually stellar penalty kill faltered. Those details will need to flip if the Hurricanes hope to snap their brutal 13-game conference finals losing streak.

The underlying numbers suggest this could be a bounce-back spot for Carolina, and that creates some intriguing value in the Panthers vs Hurricanes player props market. Keep reading for my favorite picks below.

Seth Jarvis leads the way with the shortest anytime goal odds at +195, while Sebastian Aho carries the best odds to record a point at -188. The Hurricanes’ young forward has been one of their most consistent shooters this postseason.

My favorite player prop bet of Game 2 is Seth Jarvis over 2.5 shots on goal at -125 odds. The 23-year-old has been Carolina’s most consistent volume shooter in the playoffs and should continue to pepper Bobrovsky as the Canes look to even the series.

Panthers vs Hurricanes Player Props Pick #1: Seth Jarvis Over 2.5 Shots

  • Seth Jarvis Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-125 at FanDuel)

Jarvis has emerged as one of Carolina’s most dangerous offensive weapons this postseason. He’s recorded three shots on goal in the opening frame alone in Game 1, cashing this bet early. More importantly, he’s gone over 2.5 shots in three straight games and five of his last seven outings.

May 15, 25@ WSH420:01
May 12, 25vs WSH518:29

The underlying numbers paint an even more bullish picture. In the last three games, Jarvis has become a more confident shooter with 17 shot attempts, landing an average of 4.33 shots on net over those outings. When Jarvis was on the ice in Game 1, the Canes outshot Florida 17-6. Those 17 shots led the Hurricanes, furthering my faith in his ability to generate offense at a high level.

With Carolina desperate to avoid falling behind 2-0, expect Jarvis to continue letting it fly early and often. At -125, this is my favorite play on the board.

Panthers vs Hurricanes Player Props Pick #2: Brad Marchand 1+ Points

  • Brad Marchand 1+ Points (+120 at FanDuel)

The trade deadline acquisition has been a perfect fit for this Panthers team. Marchand’s 12 points in 13 Panthers games this playoffs rank second on his team, and he’s been a catalyst on Florida’s third line alongside Eetu Luostarinen and Anton Lundell.

Marchand has tallied three goals and nine assists in 13 games while posting a +11 rating. His physical play has logged him 46 penalty minutes, the most on the team, though many of those are coincidental minors that were offset by the other team.

After his dust-up with Shayne Gostisbehere in Game 1, expect “The Rat” to come out with extra juice in Game 2. His line has been Florida’s most consistent throughout the playoffs, and getting plus money on Marchand to find the scoresheet offers solid value.

Panthers vs Hurricanes Same-Game Parlay

Seth Jarvis Over 2.5 Shots on Goal-125
Brad Marchand 1+ Points+110
Under 5.5 Goals-115
SGP ODDS at Bet365+425

For our same-game parlay, I’m combining both player prop selections with an under 5.5 total. Despite allowing five goals in Game 1, the Hurricanes are still averaging just 2.09 goals allowed per game in this postseason, which leads all playoff teams. Before Tuesday, Carolina had allowed more than three goals just once in these playoffs.

The Canes are one of the best teams in the league at making game-over-game adjustments. After they allowed four goals to New Jersey in Game 5 of the first round, Carolina allowed just seven total goals in their round 2 series win over Washington.

Carolina’s strong goal prevention is the primary reason the under has hit in four of their last six games. Meanwhile, the Panthers ranked 7th in the NHL in goals allowed per game during the regular season, and their 2.38 goals allowed per game ranks second in the postseason.

The under has hit in 10 of the last 15 games played head-to-head between these two teams. With both Frederik Andersen and Sergei Bobrovsky coming off strong recent stretches, expect a tighter defensive battle in Game 2 as the Hurricanes look to tighten up after their special teams collapse.
