Michigan Panthers Betting Trends

Michigan enters the postseason limping, having lost two straight, including one affair to Birmingham. However, that was because All-UFL quarterback Bryce Perkins hasn’t suited up due to an ankle injury. He’s expected back for this tilt, which is crucial to their success. He threw nine TD’s against just two picks on the campaign, and also used his legs to secure five more touchdowns.

Defensively Michigan is an enigma. They’ve surrendered the fewest rushing yards per game (81.0), but has allowed the most passing yards per outing (211.2).

In the two contests against Birmingham this year, the Panthers gave up a total of 47 points, losing both outings. Stallions QB J’Mar Smith torched them two weeks ago, going 22-for-31, 306 passing yards and two TD strikes. He was not the quarterback the first time they competed way back in Week 2.

Offensively, the Panthers can put points on the board, averaging 24.5, most in the UFL. Wide receiver Siaosi Mariner is a problem to contain, leading the UFL with 528 receiving yards. Prior to Perkins missing the last three tilts, Michigan had scored at least 25 points in six of their seven games.

Birmingham Stallions Betting Trends

The Stallions head into the postseason red hot, winning four of their last five games as they attempt to win their fourth straight title. They were a USFL Division best 7-and-3, with a +77 point differential, best in the league.

Since taking over the reigns at the pivot position in Week 8, QB J’Mar Smith has been fantastic, completing 65% of throws, with six touchdowns and a lone interception. Birmingham has the second most PPG in the league (24.4), putting up at least 26 points in their last five outings. That was after not reaching that mark in their first five outings of the campaign.

On the other side of the ball, it’s the Stallions calling card, giving up the second fewest points per game in the UFL, 16.7. They’ve also been stout in yards given up too, ranking in the top-half of the league.

Panthers vs Stallions Prediction

This contest should be a thrilling see-saw affair, with both teams so evenly matched. There’s one specific stat that I can’t shake though, in terms of not picking the Panthers. Michigan head coach Mike Nolan is 0-for-6 in his UFL career against Stallions head man Skip Holtz. That’s a large enough sample size to pause when thinking of betting Michigan.

In last year’s playoff meeting, the Stallions won 31-18, breaking the hearts of Michigan. The experience and veteran savvy of competing in tough games has me believing in the Stallions to do it yet again, and I’m comfortable taking the 1.5 points in order to wager on plus money.

  • Panthers vs Stallions Pick: Stallions -1.5 (+100)
