After JJ Spaun won the US Open with a brilliant back nine, the next golf stop is the Travelers Championship. The unheralded Spaun went off as a +12000 longshot to claim the US Open trophy, and he’s now +5000 to go back-to-back. It’s a signature event, so the PGA Tour’s best are teeing it up less than a week following the third major championship of the season. TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, plays host. Going low is crucial for success, with every year since 1994 featuring a winner who was double-digits under par.

Scottie Scheffler wasn’t able to win his second straight major, but he posted a respectable T-7th at the US Open at Oakmont, and he’s the favorite over Rory McIlroy at the Travelers. Scheffler won this tournament last year in a playoff over Tom Kim.

Scheffler, who hasn’t finished worse than T-8th in his last eight starts, including three victories, is the clear head honcho to win back-to-back Travelers. Rory McIlroy, who hasn’t been better than T-19th in his last three tourneys, has the second shortest odds. He’s followed by Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg and Collin Morikawa to round out the top-five.

Sam Burns has been incredibly close to adding to his trophy haul, which he’s currently stuck on five. In his last seven tournaments, he’s been no worse than 30th, with three top-tens. Two weeks ago, he was excruciatingly close at the RBC Canadian Open, dropping a four-hole playoff to Ryan Fox. Then he held the lead on the back-nine at the US Open Sunday, before a rough finishing stretch dropped him to T-7th.

However, Burns is +3500 to claim victory at the Travelers this time around, which is longer odds than the top-nine players on the betting board. Since he’s been playing extremely good golf, I’m happy to pull the trigger on him yet again, knowing that he very well could break my heart yet again, like he did at the Canadian Open.

Travelers Championship 2025 Picks & Value Bets

  1. Ben Griffin +5000: You’d be hard pressed to many players who are red-hot as Ben Griffin is right now. He won the Zurich Classic team event in April, then recently was T-8th at the PGA Championship, won the Charles Schwab Challenge, runner-up at the Memorial, then T-10th at US Open. At some point his incredible heater will taper off, but at this price, I’m more than comfortable adding him to the portfolio this week.
  2. Russell Henley +6000: Russell Henley has had a fantastic 2025, topped off by claiming the trophy at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He has seven top-10’s, with two in his last two times teeing it up at the Memorial (T-5th) and T-10th at the US Open. I was considering Cameron Young at this same number on the heels of back-to-back T-4th showings, but he still hasn’t gotten over the finish line on the PGA Tour. Therefore, I like Henley more, given that he has five victories.
  3. Brian Harman +8000: Brian Harman won a couple of months ago at the Valero Texas Open, then two events later was T-3rd at the RBC Heritage. He’s cooled off considerably since then, leading to these long odds. However, TPC River Highlands has been his personal playground, as he’s been oh-so-close to winning it several times. In 2015 he was third, then T-6th and T-8th in 2018 and 2019. The last four years he’s posted top-10’s also, in each instance, highlighted by a T-2nd in 2023. Harman loves this track and at this number, the value is too good to pass up.
  4. Nick Taylor +16000: Nick Taylor is the perfect longshot bet to make, because he comes up clutch with victories (five in his career), or he doesn’t come all that close, meaning his odds to win are often very juicy. This is a perfect example at this wild +16000 number. In his last three starts, the Canadian has been fourth at the Memorial, T-13th at the RBC Canadian Open and T-23rd at the US Open. He’s an excellent longshot and also someone worth wagering in the top 5/10/20 markets.
