It’s shaping up to be a NFC East slugfest tonight on Thursday Night Football when the Eagles (4-1, 2-0 away) visit the Giants (1-4, 1-1 home).
Online sportsbooks are expecting a low scoring affair per the TNF odds, as the total has plummeted to 40.5 points. That’s a bit of an overreaction in my opinion, as there’s plenty of reasons to believe this game could exceed offensive expectations.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15pm ET from MetLife Stadium, in East Rutherford, NJ, with Prime Video providing the broadcast coverage.
Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Giants Picks
My favorite Eagles vs Giants pick is over 40.5. This total is down 3 points from its opening line, despite the fact that the Giants defense can’t stop a nosebleed.
Philadelphia’s defense meanwhile, has allowed 68 points over the last three weeks, and there’s a high chance that star defensive tackle Jalen Carter misses this game.
New York’s offense has looked serviceable with Jaxson Dart under center, and the rookie is more than capable of leading a few scoring drives. Does it hurt that Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton are out? Sure, but that will entice Dart to target the middle of the field with tight ends and backs in matchups they can exploit.
As for the Eagles underwhelming offense to date, this is a get right spot. The G-Men’s only path to defensive success is through its pass rush, but Philly just happens to boast a top-six offensive line. New York doesn’t force turnovers and is haemorrhaging yards on the ground and through the air, opening up the door for ceiling performances by Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and Jalen Hurts.
Eagles vs Giants Predictions
I’m predicting the Eagles offense looks much more like a Super Bowl odds contender than in previous weeks. Barkley should be able to gash a run defense than ranks 28th in success rate and 30th in EPA allowed per rush. New York is extremely vulnerable on outside rushes, yielding 5.12 yards after contact, and I expect Barkley to break a long run or two around the edge.
New York Giants Defensive Stats
Hurts is also likely to put up big rushing numbers, and he’ll have the green light to air it out versus this miserable secondary. The Giants play a ton of man coverage, and Hurts brings a 125.0 passer rating to the table versus that type of scheme this season.
Man coverage invites production from Brown, as few wideouts are more difficult to defend one-on-one. Brown went 5-89-1 the last time he was at MetLife, and a similar stat line is in the cards tonight.
Not only do I like over 40.5 as a play, but I’m also on over 23.5 points for the Eagles team total. It’s a number they’ve cleared in three of five outings, and one they should exceed tonight.
