New York Sports Betting Revenues Drop in September 2025

The New York State Gaming Commission reported more than $193.75 million in gross gaming revenue for the month of September, but overall revenues decreased from September 2024 levels.

The Empire State experienced a 5.3% decrease in gross gaming revenue this past month compared with the September 2024 total of $204,710,934. While revenues decreased, New York sports betting users bet more in September 2025, $2,287,762,266, compared with the $2,071,515,109 bet in September 2024.

Overall, the state brought in $98.81 million in online sports betting tax revenues this last month.

Rough Start to October

While September saw a decrease in revenues from last year’s monthly total, October has also started off on a rough patch for New York online sports betting. The gaming commission reported $591,703,549 in total handle for the week ending Oct. 5, but gross gaming revenues decreased by more than $20 million from the previous week.

The commission reported $30,215,774 in gross gaming revenues for the week, a nearly 40% decrease from the $50,236,181 revenue total for the week of Sept. 28.

At the state’s 51% tax rate, New York reported $15,410,044 in tax revenues for the week.

The New York State Gaming Commission releases handle and revenue reports for its nine live NY sports betting apps, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel, BetMGM, Fanatics Sportsbook, Bally Bet, Resorts World Bet, ESPN BET, and BetRivers, at the conclusion of each week.

FanDuel Reclaims Top Spot

FanDuel reclaimed the top operator spot in New York with a strong week, eclipsing DraftKings in both handle and gross gaming revenues. FanDuel reported $218,719,836 in online sports betting handle and $13,194,880 in gross gaming revenue for the week, topping DraftKings’ respective totals of $212,047,994 and $7,570,346.

DraftKings gross gaming revenues decreased by nearly $16 million from the week ending Sept. 28.

Fanatics maintained its top three status in the state in terms of handle with $48,563,581, but only notched $2,434,874 in gross gaming revenue, topped by both Caesars Sportsbook and BetMGM.
