Sports Bettors Have Rough Week in New York

After a slightly down September, the state’s sports betting market has surged into October. The week’s gross gaming revenue total of $68.8 million has only been topped by two previous weeks in New York’s sports betting history.

Last year, for the week ending Sept. 15, 2024, the gaming commission reported $69,198,231 in gross gaming revenue. The most profitable week in the state’s history occurred the week ending May 12, 2024, recording $70,935,647 in gross gaming revenue.

No other week has ever cracked $70 million in gross gaming revenue.

The New York State Gaming Commission reported $554,140,942 in online sports betting handle, a nearly $37 million decrease from the previous week.

Both the handle and gross gaming revenue totals increased mightily in the state during the sixth week of the NFL season, compared with 2024’s week six totals. For the week ending Oct. 13, 2024, the state reported $483,762,776 in online sports betting handle and $20,647,061 in gross gaming revenue.

New York experienced a 14.5% increase in online sports betting handle and a 233.3% increase in gross gaming revenue for the sixth week of the NFL season compared with the 2024 NFL week six totals.
