Canada (2-0) resumes its quest for gold tonight at the World Junior Hockey Championship versus Denmark (0-2). Despite their perfect start, the Canadians have looked far from dominant, squeaking past Czechia and then needing overtime to take down Latvia.
Online sportsbooks are expecting a blowout tonight, though, pegging Canada as 7.5-goal favorites. That’s not a market I’m looking to invest in; however, two bets listed below have caught my eye.
Puck drop is set for 8:30 PM ET / 5:30 PM PT from the 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis, MN. NHL Network will cover broadcast duties in America, while TSN has the Canadian rights.
Here’s my Canada vs Denmark prediction, along with the latest odds and lineups.
Canada vs Denmark Prediction
World Junior Picks:
- Denmark Over 0.5 Goals (-154 at DraftKings),
- Tij Iginla 2+ Goals (+210 at FanDuel)

Let’s start with selection number one, which is over 0.5 goals for the Danes. Denmark has scored four times already, lighting the lamp twice against both Czechia and Finland. They’ve averaged 16 shots on goal through two games, and have scored at least once in three of their previous five matchups with the Canadians at this tournament.
Furthermore, these two teams have already squared off last week. They met last Tuesday in a pre-tournament game, and although the final result was a blowout win for Canada, Denmark did manage to tally a pair of goals.
There are a lot of things to like about this Canadian roster, but goaltending isn’t what immediately comes to mind. It’s unclear who will start tonight, but so far, Canada hasn’t exactly excelled defensively, surrendering 60 shots and six goals.
The second bet I’m making is 2+ goals for Tij Iginla. Jarome’s son has been one of Canada’s most dangerous forwards so far, creating numerous scoring chances. The 19-year-old has buried only 1 of his 8 shots, but he’s been consistently driving to the net and putting himself in position for a high-danger opportunity.
The Utah Mammoth 1st-round selection opened the scoring in the Canadians’ pre-tournament rout of the Danes, and I’m expecting a big performance from him on the scoresheet tonight.
Canada vs Denmark Odds
You’ll need access to multiple sportsbooks to tail my favorite two bets, as one is from FanDuel and the other is from DraftKings. Both shops are offering a variety of different bets, but are fully aligned with the Canada vs Denmark odds.
Each are listing Canada as 7.5-goal chalk, with neither book offering a Canadian moneyline. If you want to get wild, you can bet Denmark to pull off the upset at +9000, a feat Latvia nearly pulled off on Sunday as +3000 ‘dogs.
Total-wise, the over/under sits at 9.5, a number that each of the Danes’ first two games have fallen short of, as have one of the Canadians’ two outings.

Canada vs Denmark Lineups
As mentioned, no starting goalie or lineup combinations for the Canada vs Denmark showdown had been released at the time of writing. Canada’s top two lines will likely remain in tact, with Iginla, Michael Misa and Porter Malone forming the top trio, and Gavin McKenna, Michael Hage and Brady Martin making up the second unit.
Carter George and Jack Ivankovic have split duties so far in net, with the ladder posting much better numbers in his start.
For Denmark, Mads Klyvo, Anton Linde and William Bundgaard have formed their top line in both of their games so far, while Anton Wilde has been between the pipes each time out.
