Why Jesse Minter Leads Ravens Coaching Odds

Minter posted the biggest single-day gain in the market, jumping 12 points to reach 41%. He spent four years on John Harbaugh’s staff from 2017-2020 as a defensive assistant under Don Martindale. He knows the front office, understands the culture, and already has relationships throughout the building.

The Chargers’ defense finished top-5 in points allowed this season under his coordination. He’s 38 years old with experience at Michigan and LA, so he’s not some unproven commodity. The Jim Harbaugh connection doesn’t hurt either after winning a national title at Michigan before following him to Los Angeles.

Baltimore has always been a defense-first organization. Minter would bring that identity back while inheriting an offense with Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry that can carry games. The main question is who he’d bring in as offensive coordinator.

Brian Flores Ravens Odds Climbing

Flores gained 7 points to hit 25% based on what he’s done with Minnesota’s defense. The Vikings finished top-3 defensively without a single Pro Bowler on that side of the ball. His blitz packages and coverage schemes would fit well with Baltimore’s defensive personnel.

The Miami situation still raises some concerns. Player reviews from his head coaching tenure were mixed at best. But his work in Minnesota has clearly rehabilitated his reputation enough to be a serious contender for multiple jobs this cycle.

Klint Kubiak Interview Request Boosts Odds

Kubiak has climbed from 10% to 17% after Baltimore requested an interview with him. The Seahawks’ offensive coordinator runs a zone-run system that would pair perfectly with Jackson and Henry. His dad Gary won a Super Bowl as Baltimore’s offensive coordinator in 2014 before leaving for Denver.

Seattle ranks eighth in offensive success rate this season. Kubiak helped Sam Darnold earn a Pro Bowl berth and got Jaxon Smith-Njigba to 1,793 receiving yards, leading the league. Baltimore ranked 16th in yards per game and desperately needs that kind of offensive production.

The Seahawks are still in the playoffs, so Baltimore can’t formally interview him yet. Once Seattle’s season ends, expect his number to move higher if the interview goes well.

Kliff Kingsbury dropped 5 points to 8% after parting ways with Washington. He walked away from a coordinator job while actively on the market for head coaching positions, which doesn’t look great. His 28-37-1 record as Arizona’s head coach continues to follow him around.

The market is clearly skeptical about whether he learned from those Cardinals failures. Designing creative passing concepts as a coordinator is one thing. Managing an entire organization is another.

Vance Joseph fell 5 points to 5% and sits firmly in the “fallback option” category. He’s getting interviews, but nobody’s particularly excited about it. That 11-21 record as Denver’s head coach keeps coming up in every conversation about his candidacy.

The biggest collapse belongs to Zach Orr, who crashed 13 points to just 1%. The interim head coach saw the Ravens’ defense regress under his coordination compared to Mike Macdonald’s system. That killed any realistic shot at getting promoted from within.

Updated Ravens Next Head Coach Prediction

I’m staying with Kubiak at 17% despite Minter’s rise to the top. The offensive fit is too strong to ignore. Baltimore needs someone who can maximize Lamar Jackson’s prime years, and Kubiak’s zone-run scheme creates the easy play-action throws that Jackson thrives on.

Seattle’s playoff run means Baltimore can’t interview him yet, which is probably keeping his number lower than it should be. Once the Seahawks’ season ends and he can sit down with the Ravens, that 17% should climb.

Minter’s a solid pick if you want the safe play at 41%. He knows the organization and has proved he can coordinate an elite defense. But I’m betting on the offensive upside that Kubiak brings. Baltimore ranked 16th in yards per game this season, while Seattle ranked eighth in offensive success rate under Kubiak’s system.

The zone-run scheme, the family connection through his dad Gary, and the quarterback development track record with Darnold all point toward Kubiak being the better value at 17% compared to Minter at 41%.
