FanDuel Predicts is now live and nationwide.

FanDuel launched its prediction market service in late December in just five states, but less than a month later the company now offers prediction markets in some fashion through all 50 states in the U.S.

FanDuel Predicts is powered by a partnership between FanDuel and CME Group.

Sports Event Contracts in 18 States

FanDuel Predicts offers event contracts in all 50 states on traditional offerings based on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100, prices of oil and gas, gold cryptocurrencies, and other economic indications.

The company offers sports event contracts in 18 states, including contracts in baseball, basketball, football, and hockey. FanDuel Predicts only offers sports event contracts in states where it is not licensed to offer regulated sports betting.

FanDuel Predicts offers sports event contracts in the following states:

  • Alabama
  • Alaska
  • California
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Minnesota
  • Nebraska
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • Oklahoma
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • South Dakota
  • Texas
  • Utah

FanDuel Predicts offers sports event contracts in three states where sports betting is currently legal, but in which FanDuel is not licensed to do business. Florida’s only licensed sports betting operator is Hard Rock Bet, while Delaware has only licensed BetRivers and Rhode Island features an IGT-powered online sportsbook.

The online app is now available in the Apple app store and Google Play and will use the company’s “Know Your Customer” sign-up process, requiring a birth date, social security number, home address, banking information, and a government-issued ID to register an account.

DraftKings and Fanatics have also entered the prediction markets with their own services as well.

Will States Respond?

DraftKings, Fanatics, and FanDuel’s entry into the prediction markets may bring about the attention of state gaming regulatory bodies that have warned license holders to not offer sports event contracts or partner with those who do.

With several of the the country’s largest sports betting companies entering the prediction markets, it remains to be seen if regulators will take any action against their new business plan.

Several gaming commissions, such as those in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and New York, have warned sports betting companies that offering sports event contracts – even in other states – could put their licenses at risk.

The Arizona Department of Gaming is the only commission so far to take action against a company for a prediction market partnership. The department notified Underdog of its intention to revoke its daily fantasy sports license due to its partnership with Crypto.com, which until early December offered sports event contracts in the state.
