The College Football Playoff National Championship kicks off Monday night at Hard Rock Stadium under ideal weather conditions. The No. 10 Miami Hurricanes host the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers with clear skies and comfortable temperatures expected throughout the evening.

South Florida woke up to unseasonably cold conditions Monday morning with temperatures in the mid-40s. A Cold Weather Advisory was issued for inland Palm Beach County. But conditions will improve significantly by kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Despite perfect weather for offense, the over/under has dropped from 48.5 to 46.5. Sharp money is hammering the under based on elite defensive matchups and championship game trends.

Miami vs Indiana Weather Forecast

Tailgaters will enjoy sunshine and mild conditions throughout the afternoon in Miami Gardens. Temperatures will climb into the upper 60s with light winds gusting up to 22 mph from the north.

By kickoff, temperatures will settle into the low 60s with feel-like conditions in the upper 50s. The mercury will continue dropping as the game progresses, falling into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter.

North winds will persist through the evening at 10-13 mph with occasional gusts up to 25 mph. Humidity will hover around 67 percent with zero chance of precipitation.

Clear Skies After Sunday Storms

Miami endured a torrential downpour Sunday afternoon with thunderstorms blanketing the area throughout the day and night. But those storms cleared out completely by Monday morning.

AccuWeather projects clear conditions for the CFP National Championship with no rain expected. Hard Rock Stadium is an outdoor venue without a retractable roof, so precipitation would have impacted playing conditions significantly.

The forecast represents a stark contrast from typical Miami weather in January. South Florida is 19-25 degrees colder than Sunday with temperatures well below normal for this time of year.

CBS Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez recommends keeping jackets or sweaters handy for the game. While 60-degree weather seems mild, the combination of steady winds and dropping temperatures will make it feel cooler as the night progresses.

Indiana fans traveling from Bloomington will welcome the warmth. Temperatures in Indiana on Monday will remain in the teens with wind chills as low as -5 to -10 degrees.

Miami’s home advantage extends beyond the 65,326-seat crowd at Hard Rock Stadium. The Hurricanes practice in these conditions year-round while the Hoosiers are more accustomed to cold-weather football.

Weather Impact on Betting

Perfect weather typically favors offensive production and higher-scoring games. Quarterbacks don’t have to grip wet footballs. Receivers run cleaner routes on dry turf. Kickers attempt field goals without worrying about swirling winds.

But the CFP National Championship total has moved in the opposite direction despite ideal conditions. The over/under opened at 48.5 and has fallen to 46.5 at most sportsbooks.

That line movement tells a clear story. Sharp bettors are pounding the under while the public loads up on the over.

Sharp Money Hammering Under

The betting market reveals a split between professional and recreational action. According to Miami vs Indiana college football betting splits, 79 percent of bets are on the over, but those wagers represent only 75 percent of the handle.

That means big money is targeting the under despite clear weather at Hard Rock Stadium. The South Point sportsbook confirmed taking sharp action on under 48.5, under 48, and under 47.5 before settling at the current number.

Caesars director Joey Feazel noted that “sharp money on under 48.5” drove the line movement. He added that “on every championship game, the sharper side is on the under.”

Elite Defenses Override Weather

The weather may be perfect but both defenses have been suffocating in the College Football Playoff. Indiana allows just 11.1 points per game and has surrendered a combined 25 points across two playoff blowouts.

The Hoosiers held Alabama to three points and Oregon to 22. Indiana’s zone defense has forced 18 interceptions and recorded 45 sacks this season.

Miami’s defense has been equally dominant, allowing just 8.5 points per game in the playoffs. The Hurricanes held Texas A&M to 10 points and Ohio State to 14 while posting three defensive touchdowns during their six-game winning streak.

Championship Game History

CFP title games historically trend under regardless of weather conditions. The over is 0-12-1 through 2024 in championship games as defensive intensity and conservative playcalling suppress scoring.

The current 46.5 total sits well below the historical CFP championship average of 63.8 points. But recent defensive-minded title games have stayed low with Michigan-Washington totaling 47 in 2024 and Georgia-Alabama hitting 51 in 2022.

Vegas sportsbooks expect Miami to cover and the under to cash. Boomer’s director Nick Bogdanovich stated books will be “Hurricanes fans” Monday night based on betting patterns.

Miami’s Ball-Control Offense

The Hurricanes aren’t built to score at Indiana’s pace. Miami employs a ball-control philosophy that shortens games and reduces total possessions.

Miami has averaged just 21.7 points across three playoff games. The Hurricanes managed only 14 points against Ohio State’s defense before defensive scores padded the final margin to 24-14.

Running back Mark Fletcher has averaged 6.8 yards per carry in the playoffs as Miami leans on power rushing to complement its elite defense. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson acknowledged the team’s approach is to “complement” the defense rather than engage in shootouts.

If Miami controls tempo and limits possessions like they did against Ohio State, the total naturally trends under regardless of weather conditions at Hard Rock Stadium.

The CFP National Championship kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET Monday on ESPN. Temperatures around 63 degrees with clear skies make for perfect football weather, even if sharp bettors expect a defensive struggle.
