Two Pacific Division teams trending in opposite directions meet Saturday night as the Vancouver Canucks (18-33-7, 12-16-2 away) visit the Seattle Kraken (27-22-9, 14-9-5 home) at Climate Pledge Arena. The Kraken are comfortable home favorites per the latest NHL odds, and with good reason.

Seattle is clinging to the second Wild Card spot in the West and needs a win after back-to-back road losses to Dallas and St. Louis. Vancouver has gone just 2-14-4 over their last 20 games, one of the worst stretches in franchise history.

Puck drop is set for 10 pm ET from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. The game airs on CBC in Canada. Here are my Canucks vs Kraken prediction and picks, plus props and projected lineups for Saturday night.

Canucks vs Kraken Prediction

• Kraken ML (-150 at BetMGM)

I don’t love laying -150, but it’s hard to fade Seattle in this spot. My Canucks vs Kraken prediction has the Kraken winning comfortably at home against a Vancouver team that’s completely collapsed.

The Canucks have lost eight straight road games and are 1-9 in their last 10 on the road. Vancouver’s .371 points percentage is a massive drop from last year’s .549, the second-largest year-over-year decline in the NHL.

#Canucks last road win was in Seattle on December 29th (3-2 in a shootout). Have lost 8 straight in regulation away from home since then outscored 38-13 in the process.

Seattle has been the opposite against these types of opponents. The Kraken own a 19-5-5 record against non-playoff teams this season, good for the fourth-best points percentage (.741) in the league. They’re even better at home against those clubs, going 9-1-3 (.808).

Why the moneyline instead of the puck line? Seattle could start slow in their first home game since late January, and Vancouver has actually covered +1.5 in seven of their last 10 games. I’m confident Seattle wins, but I’m not confident enough in the margin to lay -1.5 at +150.

Canucks vs Kraken Key Stats

The defensive gap here is enormous. Vancouver allows 3.68 goals per game, dead last in the NHL, while Seattle checks in at 2.95. The Canucks’ penalty kill has cratered from 82.6% last season to 71.1%, the largest drop in the league. That’s a problem against a Seattle power play clicking at nearly 23%.

This is also Seattle’s first home game since the end of January after an extended road trip that bookended the Olympic break. The Kraken have earned a point in 14 straight home games when scoring first — a franchise record.

Here’s my favorite Canucks vs Kraken prop pick. Tolvanen has 31 points this season and plays on Seattle’s power play, giving him direct exposure to that brutal Vancouver PK I mentioned above.

Tolvanen has exceeded 1.5 shots on goal in nine straight games against opponents with losing records. That kind of volume against a leaky PK at plus money is a strong play.

The juice is steep, but McCann has recorded a point in 11 of his last 13 games against opponents with losing records. He centers Seattle’s top line and runs the first power-play unit. Vancouver’s road defense has been catastrophic, allowing 4.50 goals per game over their last 10 away from home.

• Chandler Stephenson Over 0.5 Points (-125 at DraftKings)

Stephenson has 36 points on the year and also sees power-play time, giving him the same PK mismatch angle as Tolvanen. At -125, his price is far more reasonable than McCann’s and still gives you solid exposure to the Seattle offense.

All three legs of this SGP correlate well. Seattle wins, and two forwards with power-play time find the scoresheet against a collapsing Vancouver defense. A $10 bet on this parlay would pay out roughly $59 at approximate +494 odds, though actual SGP pricing will vary by book.
