The puck drops Wednesday in a battle between a St. Louis Blues squad that’s playing out the string, way behind a playoff spot, while the Seattle Kraken are scratching and clawing to make the postseason for the second time ever.
St. Louis (22-29-9, 31-29 ATS, 53 pts) squares off against Seattle (29-22-9, 41-19 ATS, 67 pts), with the latter fourth in the Pacific, while the former is in last place in the Central.
Action is set to get underway at 7:00 pm PT / 10:00 pm ET from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, with ESPN+ and Hulu providing the coverage in the United States.
Blues vs Kraken Prediction
- Blues +1.5 (-190 at BetMGM)
My Blues vs Kraken prediction has the Blues keeping this a close game and not losing by more than a goal. In their last ten contests, St. Louis has just three victories, but five of their seven defeats have been by just one marker. Additionally, in this series, St. Louis has had the significant upper hand in the last eight meetings, winning on six occasions against their Western Conference foes, and the two losses came past regulation.
Per the NHL odds, it’s extremely close in the betting odds between the Blues vs Kraken with our SBD formula predicting a 3.65-3.15 SEA tally, which dovetails with me predicting STL will cover the spread. In their last six affairs, Seattle has won three and lost three, so it’s hard to fully trust them to win by multiple goals in this one.
Keep an eye on Blues forward Robert Thomas’ availability for this duel. There’s a chance they sit him, if they have a potential deal in the works before Friday’s trade deadline. There’s smoke around him possibly being dealt to Buffalo, which would of course alter the odds.
The goaltending matchup hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s expected to be Jordan Binnington (STL) versus Phillip Grubauer (SEA). In his first skirmish since the Olympics, Binner surrendered two goals in a loss to NJ. Grubauer’s first start coming out of the break was against the Blues, and he was lit up for four goals on 31 shots.
STL vs SEA Season Stats/Ranks
There’s no other way to slice it – the Blues are a very poor team, with the second fewest amount of points in the NHL (53). They ranked towards the basement in scoring, but also in allowing a ton of pucks to get past them as well. The special teams are most certainly not special, as both the PP and PK are struggling.
Seattle has a strange anomaly in that they can’t score much, but are better than league average on the man advantage, are strong in allowing few goals, yet are atrocious when they’re down a man.
Blues vs Kraken Props Pick
- Dylan Holloway Anytime Goal Scorer (+280 at FanDuel)
For a prop bet, I’m going to ride with a player who has been en fuego this season against Seattle – Dylan Holloway. The first meeting of the campaign he scored, and then on February 26th, he sniped a hat-trick and added a helper. That was his second career outing tickling the twine three times, and he can be found at +280 at FanDuel.
There are six players with shorter odds than him to light the lamp, so you’re getting Holloway at tremendous value. If you want to parlay The Blues covering the +1.5 spread, plus Holloway to find the back of the net, that total pays out a cool +320.
Blues vs Kraken Odds
The Kraken are -144 moneyline favorites and are laying 1.5 goals on the puck line at +172. The Blues come back as a +120 underdog, while the total currently sits at 5.5 goals at FanDuel.
The implied win probability of SEA at -144 is 59.0%. You’d need to wager $144 on the favorites to win $100, while a $100 bet on the underdogs clears $120.
