The Bellarmine Knights (12-18, 7-11 A-Sun, 16-11-1 ATS) meet the Jacksonville Dolphins (12-19, 7-11 A-Sun, 12-17 ATS) at UNF Arena in Jacksonville in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 12:00 pm ET and ESPN+ will have the broadcast.
While the venue serves as a neutral site for the first round of the tournament, the Dolphins are playing within their city limits, adding a distinct layer to the handicapping equation for this midweek matinee.
Sportsbooks have positioned Bellarmine as a razor-thin favorite in a line implies a one-possession game. I will dissect the moneyline, spread, and total to identify where the statistical value lies in this win-or-go-home tilt.

The Knights are one of the strangest basketball teams you will ever come across. They boast a top-100 offense in terms of efficiency but pair it with the literal worst defense in all of DI basketball (365th out of 365 teams in DRtg at KenPom. Yet, coach Doug Davenport has his Knights playing at a lethargic pace (322nd in tempo).
Jacksonville is, obviously, better than Bellarmine on defense (272nd) and far worse on offense (294th).
Moneyline Pick: Jacksonville Dolphins (45¢ at Kalshi)
Although this is technically a neutral-site contest at UNF Arena, I am handicapping this as a pseudo-home game for Jacksonville. Beyond the geographic edge, a direct comparison of recent performance against common opponents points heavily toward the Dolphins.
The most glaring discrepancy involves West Georgia. In early January, the Knights engaged in a shootout with West Georgia, losing 87-85 in a game where perimeter defense was non-existent. Conversely, Jacksonville suffocated that same West Georgia squad, winning 75-43. Looking at North Alabama as a common opponent, Bellarmine lost to the Lions 82-73 at home, while Jacksonville decimated North Alabama 90-68 just a week later.
Jacksonville has demonstrated a significantly higher defensive ceiling, capable of holding opponents under 50 points. In contrast, Bellarmine has struggled to get stops, conceding 80+ points in four of their five recorded January contests.
In a tournament setting where defensive intensity is sure to be amplified, I am taking the plus-money odds with the team that can generate stops.
The best moneyline price bettors can find on Jacksonville at traditional sportsbooks is just +118. However, Kalshi is offering “No” contracts on Bellarmine to win at 45¢, which is equivalent to a +122 moneyline.

Make sure you choose the best price from the available markets; the “yes” on Jacksonvilleto win is only trading at 47¢, two cents worse than the “No” on Bellarmine to win, which is an identical proposition.
Game-Total Prediction: Over 145.5 (52¢ at Kalshi)
The total is set at 146.5 at most sportsbooks but is a full point lower at Kalshi. Bellarmine’s all offense, no defense style of play threatens to crush this number. While their pace isn’t fast, their efficient offense and porous D have led to massive totals, especially of late:

- vs North Alabama: 155 total points
- vs Central Arkansas: 162 total points
- vs Queens (NC): 174 total points
- vs West Georgia: 172 total points
Every single one of these matchups cleared the 146 mark comfortably.
While the Dolphins have shown defensive prowess, Bellarmine’s inability to slow down opposing offenses forces them to maximize possessions to stay competitive. I expect the Knights to push the tempo to compensate for their defensive lapses, dragging this game over the total.

The table above breaks down the key efficiency and ranking metrics for both squads. Note the disparity in Strength of Schedule (SOS) and Opponents’ Winning Percentage (OWP), which highlights the difference in competition level faced by each team.
The most telling statistic in this matchup is the Strength of Schedule (SOS). Jacksonville possesses a rating of .4807 compared to Bellarmine’s .4618. In the landscape of mid-major basketball, this is a significant gap. The Dolphins have been battle-tested by a tougher slate of opponents, evidenced by their Opponent Winning Percentage (OWP) of .4819, nearly 33 points higher than the Knights’ .4494.
Despite Bellarmine having a similar winning percentage, the computers favor the Dolphins by a wide margin. Jacksonville ranks #267 in the RPI compared to Bellarmine at #308. Alignment: Unlike the side, my prediction aligns with the public here. The betting market clearly respects the high-pace potential of Bellarmine’s games, and with nearly 72% of the handle backing the Over, the consensus agrees that defense will be scarce.
