Connor Murphy, Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach will all make their Oilers debuts after being acquired from Chicago in two separate deals this week.

Edmonton needs the help. The Oilers rank 26th in goals against (3.34 per game), and their penalty kill sits at 76.7% (26th). Carolina is the opposite, allowing just 2.82 goals per game (6th) while generating the second-most shots in the league at 32.08 per game.

My Hurricanes vs Oilers prediction is on the over 6.5 goals. Edmonton games have been absolute fireworks lately. The over has cashed in nine of the Oilers’ last 11, and they’ve averaged 4.7 goals per game during that stretch while allowing 4.3. That’s nine combined goals per game.

The head-to-head history backs it up too. The over has hit in five of the last seven meetings and five of the last seven in Edmonton. Last time these teams played, the Oilers won 4-3 in overtime in Carolina back in November.

Edmonton owns the league’s best power play at a ridiculous 32.94%, and Carolina takes 7.89 penalty minutes per game. Even a couple of trips to the box could turn into goals against that kind of conversion rate. On the flip side, the Oilers’ 76.7% penalty kill is a liability against a Hurricanes power play that’s clicking at 22.58%.

Both teams can score, both have leaky moments defensively, and this game has all the ingredients for a high-event night at Rogers Place.

Roslovic has cleared 1.5 shots in six of his last seven games, averaging 2.29 per game during that stretch. He’s riding shotgun with Leon Draisaitl and Matthew Savoie on a line that’s been driving possession at a 58.1% Corsi rate.

McDavid has 35 goals and 105 points and averages 3.7 shots per game with a 15.1% conversion rate. He’s the best player on the planet, and I’m getting plus money on him to score against a Carolina team that sits 22nd in save percentage (.884).

The Oilers are 1-4 in their last five against Metropolitan Division teams, so they’ll need McDavid to carry the load offensively. At +125, I’ll take those odds all day.

Tristan Jarry gets the start for Edmonton with a 15-7-2 record and 3.07 GAA. Brandon Bussi starts for Carolina, carrying a 25-3-1 record, 2.29 GAA and .902 save percentage. Bussi has been one of the best stories in the NHL this season after Carolina claimed him off waivers from Florida in October.

For Edmonton, Murphy will slot in alongside Jake Walman on the blue line, Dickinson will center the third line in a shutdown role, and Dach will debut on the fourth line. Coach Knoblauch said the transition should be “seamless” given Chicago’s similar systems. Carolina is without Pyotr Kochetkov (hip, season) but is otherwise healthy.
