The Golden Knights (29-22-14, 14-10-7 home) look to snap a three-game losing streak tonight when they host the shorthanded Penguins (32-17-15, 16-8-7 away). Online sportsbooks like their chances, pegging Vegas as home favorites in the NHL odds. I don’t see an issue with that line, but I’m targeting under 6.5 goals instead in my Penguins versus Golden Knights prediction.

Puck drop for this pivotal clash is set for 7:10 pm PT, 10:10 pm ET, inside T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, NV, with ESPN+ providing the broadcast coverage.

Both teams enter play ranked around the middle of the pack in goals for, but it’s not hard to make an argument against either offense.

Pittsburgh has been one of the league’s surprise stories, but continued success is going to be difficult to find based on their current roster. Leading scorer Sidney Crosby remains on IR following his injury suffered at the Olympics, while Evgeni Malkin is serving a five-game suspension.

It wasn’t long ago that those two were the McDavid and Draisaitl of the NHL, with the duo carrying the Pens to multiple titles in the Stanley Cup odds. Now, plenty of years later, they still remain two of the team’s most important pieces.

Crosby leads the team in goals and points, while Malkin is Pittsburgh’s top distributor. The duo also owns the highest percentage of primary assists on the Pens, and offense will be tough to muster without them.

That should especially be the case versus Vegas, who on paper, are a solid defensive team. The Golden Knights are seventh this season in expected goals allowed at even strength, permitting the fifth-fewest high-danger chances.

The problem is that the goaltending has been well below average, but I’m banking on them being able to contain Pittsburgh without their top two players.

As for the Vegas offense, it’s disappeared as of late. The Golden Knights have scored two or fewer goals in six of eight games since the Olympic break, losing in each one of those instances. To make matters worse, the injury bug has bitten them as well, with Mark Stone joining William Karlsson on injured reserve.

With two of their top snipers out of the lineup, Vegas will be hard-pressed to beat Arturs Silovs. The 24-year-old shut them out when they met a week and a half ago, and has yielded two or fewer goals in seven of his last 11 starts.

• Pavel Dorofeyev 3+ Shots (-125 at DraftKings)

Moving over to the NHL props market, where I’m betting Pavel Dorofeyev to record 3+shots. The Golden Knights’ leading goal scorer ranks second on the team in shots this season, and was just moved onto a line with Mitch Marner.

The former Maple Leafs star has the highest percentage of first assists of any Vegas skater, and he’ll be looking for his new linemate early and often tonight.

As of Thursday afternoon, the best place to bet on Dorofeyev 3+ shots is over at DraftKings. They’re offering a -125 line on the prop, which is 10 cents shorter than most other books.

As for the Penguins versus Golden Knights odds, BetMGM has the best price on under 6.5 goals at -120, while Bet365 has the shortest Vegas moneyline at -150.
