- Both teams enter with identical 38-23-8 records and 84 points, battling for playoff positioning

Identical records, identical stakes. The Boston Bruins (38-23-8) and Detroit Red Wings (38-23-8) are mirror images in the standings heading into Saturday’s showdown at Little Caesars Arena. Both sit at 84 points and are scrapping for Atlantic Division seeding and NHL playoff bracket positioning with under 15 games to go.
Boston blasted the Jets 6-1 on Thursday, while Detroit took care of Montreal 3-1 behind a 32-save performance from John Gibson. The Bruins are 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these clubs, but Detroit owns the home ice advantage at 9-3 in the last 12 at Little Caesars.
Puck drop is set for 8 pm ET on ABC. My Bruins vs Red Wings prediction, picks and NHL odds are below.
Bruins vs Red Wings Prediction
- Red Wings ML (-122 at FanDuel)
Detroit has been a different team at home, going 20-11-3 at Little Caesars this season. The Red Wings are 7-1 at home against opponents with a winning record over their last eight, and 7-2 at home following a win over their last nine. Those are strong situational numbers.
Boston is the opposite on the road. The Bruins are 1-9 over their last 10 away from home and have lost seven straight road games following a win. Their 12-14-7 road record is a red flag for a team with Stanley Cup odds aspirations.
Bruins vs Red Wings Key Stats
Boston scores more, but gives up way more chances. The Bruins allow 29.81 shots per game, 30th in the NHL, while Detroit holds opponents to 27.83. The Red Wings are also one of the most disciplined teams in the league at 7.65 penalty minutes per game (7th), which limits Boston’s dangerous power play.
My Bruins vs Red Wings prediction is on Detroit at home. The road struggles for Boston are real, and the Wings’ defensive structure should keep this one tight.
Bruins vs Red Wings Picks
I’ve got three Bruins vs Red Wings picks on the prop side for Saturday night.
- Patrick Kane Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-124)
SPORTSBOOK
Kane has gone over 2.5 shots in four straight games as a favorite, averaging 3.0 per contest. The 37-year-old recently passed Joey Mullen for fourth in U.S.-born NHL goals and has eight points in his last nine games. Boston allows nearly 30 shots per game, so the volume should be there.
- Charlie McAvoy Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (-122)
McAvoy has cleared 1.5 shots in six straight road games, averaging 2.7 per contest. The Bruins defenseman is active from the blue line and should get plenty of looks against a Detroit team that blocks shots at the third-highest rate in the league.
- Elias Lindholm Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+111)

Lindholm has failed to clear 1.5 shots in 10 straight road games against teams with a winning record, averaging just 0.7 per game. He’s been demoted to the third line during a rough stretch, and plus money on the under is too good to pass up. That wraps up my Bruins vs Red Wings picks for Saturday.

Detroit opened as a slight home favorite around -120. The under has been the dominant trend in this series, hitting in 5 of the last 6 meetings. Both teams play tight defensive games, and with Gibson and Swayman both in strong recent form, expect a low-scoring affair.
Bruins vs Red Wings Starting Goalies
Jeremy Swayman is confirmed for Boston after stopping 23 of 24 shots in Thursday’s 6-1 win over Winnipeg. The 27-year-old has been playing his best hockey of the season in March, going 5-1-1 with a 1.83 GAA and .929 save percentage. He’s 2-1-0 against Detroit this year with a 2.49 GAA and one shutout.
John Gibson is the likely starter for Detroit after stopping 32 of 33 shots in Thursday’s 3-1 win over Montreal. Gibson has gone 4-3-1 with a 2.12 GAA and .923 save percentage since returning from the Olympic break. The 32-year-old has four shutouts on the season.
Bruins vs Red Wings Goalie Stats
Detroit will also be without captain Dylan Larkin (leg), who has missed seven straight games with no timetable for return. Michael Rasmussen (undisclosed) is out until late March, and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard (undisclosed) is a game-time decision. Boston enters with a fully healthy roster.
