DraftKings this week introduced DK Replay in Oregon, a new sports betting game that introduces historical betting markets for Major League Baseball.
Launched in Oregon, eligible customers can now bet pitch-by-pitch on hundreds of thousands of anonymized historical plate appearances from the last several Major League Baseball seasons. The game received approval for launch from the Oregon Lottery.
“DK Replay offers a new experience for our customers, allowing them to tap into the excitement of pitch-by-pitch betting in a unique historical environment,” said Corey Gottlieb, Chief Product Officer at DraftKings, in a press release. “With DK Replay, we’re able to offer an experience that will allow customers to enjoy their favorite sports no matter the time of year.”
Additional State Rollouts Possible
While DraftKings is exploring additional state rollouts for DK Replay, the game is currently only available in Oregon. Eligible customers can access the game by downloading the latest version of the DraftKings Sportsbook app.
With DK Replay, customers can bet on anonymized Major League Baseball appearances from the last several seasons.
The game presents customers with an anonymized pitcher versus batter matchup from one of the last several baseball seasons. Players are rated either bronze, silver, or gold based on stats from the original game, such as batting average, slugging percentage, ERA, and strikeouts per nine inning, so the customer can analyze the matchup.
Customers are then able to place a wager within the pitch clock on whether the next pitch will be a ball, a strike, or be in-play.
“Once the bet is placed, the actual outcome of the pitch will be revealed, and the bet will be graded. Following the conclusion of the full plate appearance, or if the customer doesn’t bet on subsequent pitches due to the pitch clock getting to zero, the full original details of the matchup will be revealed, including the pitcher, batter and original game information. Customers will then have the option to bet on a new matchup,” DraftKings reported in its release.
Similar to Historical Horse Racing Games
DK Replay is similar to historical horse racing, which is an electronic gambling machine that allows players to bet on anonymized horse or dog races that have been run in the past. The machines are popular at racing tracks across the country and usually resemble slot machines.
Additionally, Hard Rock Bet debuted a similar product this past October. Real Money Games Powered by Past Motor Racing allows customers to play a game similar to a slot machine that is based on anonymized, previously run motor races.
Outcomes of the games are determined by the results of the previously run motor races.
