Blackhawks vs Rangers Prediction, Prop Picks, Odds & Projected Lineups (Friday, Mar. 27)
By Brady Trettenero in NHL Hockey
Published:
- The Rangers are -180 home favorites but have lost six straight, scoring three or fewer in each
- Dylan Garand makes his second career NHL start for New York after a .946 save percentage in his debut
- My Blackhawks vs Rangers prediction, prop picks, odds and projected lineups are below
Neither of these teams has anything to play for in the NHL playoff standings, but there’s still value on the board. The Chicago Blackhawks (27-32-13) visit the New York Rangers (28-35-9) at Madison Square Garden on Friday, with both clubs sitting in the bottom half of their respective conferences.
New York has lost six straight (0-5-1) and scored three or fewer goals in all six. Chicago was thumped 5-1 by Philadelphia on Thursday night. The Rangers hand the crease to 23-year-old Dylan Garand for just his second NHL start.
Puck drop is 7 pm ET. My Blackhawks vs Rangers prediction, prop picks and Friday NHL odds are below.
Blackhawks vs Rangers Prediction
- Over 6.0 Goals (-120 at Bet365)
My Blackhawks vs Rangers prediction is on the over at 6.0. The over has hit in 5 of the Rangers’ last 7 games following a loss and 8 of their last 13 overall. Chicago’s side trends the same way, with the over cashing in 4 of their last 4 against Eastern Conference teams and 4 of their last 5 against Metropolitan Division opponents.
Both teams allow north of 29 shots per game and carry sub-.900 save percentages. Chicago gives up 30.18 shots against per game (31st), and New York isn’t much better at 29.36 (23rd). Arvid Soderblom has a 3.68 GAA and .883 save percentage, while Garand is making just his second NHL start.
Neither penalty kill is getting the job done either. New York’s 78.1% ranks 23rd, and while Chicago’s 84.9% ranks first, the Rangers’ 24.3% power play (7th) should find opportunities.
Blackhawks vs Rangers Key Stats
New York dominates the faceoff dot at 54.3% (3rd) compared to Chicago’s 46.4% (31st). The Rangers also lead the NHL in hits at 25.85 per game, so expect them to control possession and generate volume.
Blackhawks vs Rangers Prop Picks
Three props for my Blackhawks vs Rangers picks Friday night.
- Mika Zibanejad Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-148)
Zibanejad has cleared 2.5 shots in 4 straight games following a Rangers loss, averaging 5.0 per game in those spots. The 33-year-old had 10 shots on goal against Toronto on Tuesday and has scored in three straight.
He averages 2.76 shots per game on the season and is logging a career-high 21:01 of ice time per night. Against a Chicago team allowing 30.18 shots per game, Zibanejad should have no trouble finding shooting lanes.
- Vladislav Gavrikov Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (-103)

Gavrikov has cleared 1.5 shots in 13 of his last 14 home games against bottom-10 scoring defenses (93% hit rate), averaging 2.29 per game. The veteran defenseman has 14 goals this season, more than double his previous career high.
Near even money on a 93% hit rate. He’s on the top pairing with Adam Fox and seeing 23:47 of ice time per night with PP2 duties.
- Connor Bedard Under 3.5 Shots on Goal (-152)
I’m going under on Bedard’s shots to wrap up my Blackhawks vs Rangers picks. He’s 0-for-4 clearing 3.5 shots in his career against New York, averaging just 1.75 per game against the Rangers.
His season average sits at 3.32, already below the line. The juice is steep at -152, but the matchup data against New York is clear.
