The 2026 Frozen Four kicks off Thursday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and we’re getting an old WCHA rivalry to start things off. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks (29-9-1) take on the Wisconsin Badgers (23-12-2) in a semifinal between two programs with 14 national titles between them.
North Dakota enters as the No. 2 overall seed after dismantling Merrimack and Quinnipiac by a combined 8-0 in the Sioux Falls Regional. Wisconsin, the No. 12 seed, needed two stunners to get here, including a 4-3 overtime win over Michigan State after trailing 3-1 with under five minutes left in regulation.
Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Here are my Wisconsin vs North Dakota prediction, odds, best bets and how to watch this Frozen Four semifinal.

I’m going under 5.5 goals for my Wisconsin vs North Dakota prediction, and the goaltending matchup is a big reason why.
Jan Spunar has been on a different level in this tournament, posting back-to-back shutouts against Merrimack and Quinnipiac. The NCHC Goaltender of the Year owns a .917 save percentage and a 1.90 goals-against average on the season, with six shutouts.
North Dakota also brings real defensive structure into this one. The Fighting Hawks rank second nationally in shots allowed per game, and Wisconsin sits 11th in the same category. These aren’t run-and-gun teams when the stakes get this high.
Wisconsin’s penalty kill is the one thing that scares me on the under. The Badgers killed at just 70.9% on the season, second-worst among Division I programs, and North Dakota’s power play ranks seventh nationally. But the Fighting Hawks haven’t allowed a power-play goal since March 6 against Omaha, so the special teams concerns cut both ways.
The other piece is Wisconsin’s freshman starter Daniel Hauser. He posted a .902 save percentage during the regional and was up and down all year, but the Badgers have provided him with strong defensive support over their last seven games.
These are two structured teams with two solid goalies, playing in a Frozen Four atmosphere where mistakes get punished. I’ll take the Under.
Wisconsin vs North Dakota Best Bets
- Wisconsin +1.5 Puck Line (-154 at DraftKings)
I’m starting my Wisconsin vs North Dakota best bets with the Badgers on the puck line. Mike Hastings has built this team to play tight, structured hockey, and he’s proven he can manage long layoffs.
Wisconsin has had multiple stretches of 10+ days off this season and responded well coming out of them. The Badgers also lean on a veteran core that includes captain Ben Dexheimer, Quinn Finley, and Gavin Morrissey.
Finley led all players in the regional round with five points in two games, including the goal that started the comeback against Michigan State. Morrissey has been Wisconsin’s leading scorer with 36 points and added three points in that overtime win.
North Dakota is the better team on paper, but a 1.5 goal cushion in a low-event semifinal is exactly the kind of bet I want to be on. The Badgers showed against MSU that they don’t fold late.
- Both Teams to Score in 1st Period: No
Both of these teams take their time feeling out an opponent in big games, and the Frozen Four atmosphere only adds to that. North Dakota has scored first in the majority of their wins this postseason, and Wisconsin needed a third-period rally to even reach Vegas.
With Spunar locked in and both clubs ranking inside the top 11 in shots allowed per game, I don’t see this game opening up early. Fighting Hawks coach Dane Jackson has emphasized managing the puck and playing simple in tournament hockey, which usually means a slow first period.
- North Dakota Team Total Under 3.5 Goals
To wrap up my Wisconsin vs North Dakota best bets, I’m taking the Fighting Hawks under 3.5 team goals. This ties everything together with my under 5.5 lean and Wisconsin +1.5 pick.
Wisconsin sits 11th nationally in shots allowed per game, and Daniel Hauser has had stretches of strong play behind that defense.
North Dakota only put up three goals in the regional semifinal against Merrimack, and games at this stage tend to tighten up. I don’t see the Hawks lighting it up against a structured Wisconsin defense.
Wisconsin vs North Dakota Odds
The Wisconsin vs North Dakota odds peg the Fighting Hawks at -210, which translates to a roughly 68% implied probability. Wisconsin’s +160 moneyline gives the Badgers about a 38% implied chance, which feels low considering how they’ve played in this tournament.
A $100 bet on Wisconsin to win outright would return $160 in profit. The total is set at 5.5 goals, with the under juiced to -125, telling you the books expect a tight, defensive game between two teams that don’t give up much.
