It’s their super power, and a big reason they’re expected to be a force in the NBA Championship odds. In their three outings versus the Lakers this season, the Rockets rebounded 40% of their own misses, with Thompson accounting for an average of 4 offensive boards per game.

He averaged 10 rebounds per outing in total against LA over their three matchups, and has cleared 7.5 boards in seven of his last 10 games overall. He ranks second on the team in boards behind Alperen Sengun, but has been the more consistent performer on the glass over the last month and a half.

As for James, online sportsbooks aggressively bumped his assist prop up to 9.5 for this playoff contest, in response to the absence of Doncic and Austin Reaves to a lesser extend. While James will undoubtedly take on heavy playmaking duties versus the Rockets, this inflated total completely disrespects Houston’s elite defensive structure. Houston actively prevents fluid ball movement, holding opponents to only 24.5 assists per game, the second lowest total in the NBA.

James averaged 7.2 assists per game during the regular season, and while he has experienced an uptick in production since Doncic went down, his big games were against bottom feeders. When facing elite defensive competition he didn’t come close to reaching 10 assists, racking up only six a piece versus the Thunder and Cavs.
