Switzerland has waited a long time for this. Four silver medals, four heartbreaks, zero golds in the history of their program. Now they’re 9-0 on home ice with 10,000 fans at Swiss Life Arena ready to lose their minds.

Finland is the only team standing in the way. The Finns knocked off Canada 4-2 in Saturday’s semifinal, rallying from a 2-1 deficit with three goals in the second period. They’re going for their fifth World Championship gold and first since 2022.

I’m betting Switzerland to win its first gold medal in program history. The Swiss have been the best team in this tournament from wire to wire, posting a 9-0 record with a tournament-best +40 goal differential (48 GF, 8 GA).

They’ve already beaten Finland 4-2 in the preliminary round, and they get to do it again in front of a sellout crowd that has been a legitimate factor all month.

Leonardo Genoni is the biggest reason I’m on Switzerland. The 38-year-old has three shutouts in this tournament and is the all-time IIHF World Championship shutout leader with 15 career blanks. He was named tournament MVP at the 2025 Worlds and has been even sharper this year. Finland will have to earn everything they get against him.

The Swiss also get Timo Meier back after a one-game suspension for kneeing Sweden’s Oskar Sundqvist. Meier has 39 shots on goal in eight games, the most on Switzerland’s roster, and adding him back into a lineup that just scored six against Norway makes this offense even more dangerous.

Finland is a serious team, and Aleksander Barkov’s comeback from a torn ACL has been one of the best stories of the tournament. But Switzerland has allowed just eight goals in nine games, and beating Genoni in front of this crowd is going to take more than grit. I see this finishing 3-1 or 3-2.

Switzerland’s -130 moneyline carries an implied probability of about 57%, making this the tightest gold medal game line in recent memory. Finland at +110 gives them roughly a 48% chance, and that feels right for a team with four World Championship golds on their resume.

The Finland vs Switzerland odds have the total at 4.5 with the over juiced to -148. Both teams can score, but Genoni’s presence makes me lean toward the under if you want a secondary play.

• Nico Hischier Anytime Goal (+190 at DraftKings)

I’m kicking off my Finland vs Switzerland props with the Swiss captain. Hischier has six goals in nine games and is shooting 27.3% in the tournament. He scored in the semifinal against Norway and is getting quality ice time at 18:17 per game.

He’s also chipped in three power play goals, which matters against a Finnish penalty kill that got burned twice in the group stage meeting.

• Aleksander Barkov Anytime Goal (+220 at DraftKings)

Barkov has three goals and eight assists in nine games after missing the entire NHL season with a torn ACL. He scored the tying goal against Canada in the semifinal and has been playing nearly 19 minutes a night.

A gold medal game is the kind of stage the three-time Selke Trophy winner was built for. I like +220 on Finland’s best player in what should be a tight one.
