Georgia takes its 2-0 record to Fayetteville today for their SEC opener against Arkansas. Kickoff is at noon ET from Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, with ABC televising the game.

The Bulldogs trounced Western Kentucky 70-20 last week, while Arkansas fell to 1-1 after a 43-10 loss at Utah. Today marks another difficult test for the Razorbacks, and online sportsbooks are pegging them as a massive home ‘dog in the college football odds.

• Predicted score: Georgia 45, Arkansas 13.

Georgia’s offensive efficiency is the difference for me. Stockton, a Heisman Trophy odds longshot, has completed 28 of 32 passes for 436 yards, eight touchdowns and no interceptions through two games. He has been accurate and productive without putting the ball in danger.

The Bulldogs have also protected him well, allowing no sacks in those games. Keeping Stockton out of obvious passing situations makes it harder for Arkansas to bring pressure without exposing its secondary. Georgia can work through its running backs and still attack downfield when the defense commits forward.

Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens give the National Championship odds candidate experienced options in the backfield. That balance matters on the road. Georgia does not need to rely on a string of explosive passes to keep its offense moving, which should help it respond if Arkansas starts well at home.

The opposition becomes stronger after wins over Tennessee State and Western Kentucky, so I’m not projecting another 70-point afternoon. Still, Arkansas just allowed Utah to score 43. The Razorbacks need a substantial improvement in tackling and drive prevention to hold Georgia within striking distance.

Georgia has outscored its first two opponents 84-9 in the first half. Another fast start would allow the Bulldogs to dictate how this game is played and force Arkansas to take more risks on offense.

Georgia vs Arkansas Pick

• Best bet: Over 54.5 points at BetMGM.

I prefer the total to laying the full spread. My projection gives Georgia 45 points, leaving Arkansas needing two scoring drives for this to get over the line. The Bulldogs have shown enough offensive variety for me to trust them to do most of the work.

Arkansas does not need to match Georgia drive for drive. A touchdown and a field goal would bring the combined score to 55 if the visitors reach that projection. That offers more routes to a winning bet than requiring the Razorbacks to stay competitive into the fourth quarter.

The risk is a slower second half with Georgia protecting a comfortable lead. A heavy rushing approach could shorten the game and reduce the possessions available to Arkansas. That makes the Bulldogs’ early scoring especially important to this over.

I still expect enough points. Stockton’s accurate start gives Georgia a way to finish drives efficiently, and Arkansas’ defensive performance at Utah suggests the home team will have difficulty consistently forcing punts. The 24.5-point spread requires Georgia to win by at least 25. My projected 32-point margin clears it, but an Arkansas touchdown late in a decided game would matter considerably to that bet.
