The Atlanta Falcons (0-2 SU, 0-2 ATS) received a massive boost ahead of their Week 3 Thursday Night Football clash against the Green Bay Packers (1-1 SU, 0-2 ATS), with confirmation that starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr is set to return from injury.

The announcement triggered immediate movement across prediction markets; the Falcons’ moneyline contract at Kalshi climbed from 25¢ (+300) up to 27¢ (+270).

Below is the game odds board from Kalshi, converted into American odds:

Updated Falcons vs Packers Odds

TeamMoneylineSpreadTotal
Falcons+270 (27¢)+6.5 (-108 / 52¢)O 43.5 (-104 / 51¢)
Packers-270 (73¢)-6.5 (+104 / 49¢)U 43.5 (-100 / 50¢)

Against the spread, the Falcons are 6.5-point road underdogs. That’s a half-point lower than the opening NFL Week 3 odds, which listed Atlanta at +7 with standard -110 juice.

The O/U has dropped from 44.5 to 43.5, but that movement came before the Penix news. Don’t be surprised if it ticks back up.

How Penix Jr’s Return Transforms Atlanta’s Offense

If he’s at full speed, Penix’s return fundamentally alters an Atlanta offense that has been anemic – putting in generously – through the first eight quarters of the new campaign. The Falcons managed just 16 total points in losses to Pittsburgh (20-13 away) and Carolina (34-3 home). With Cooper Rush (and Jack Strand) at the helm, the Atlanta offense has made zero trips into the red-zone while turning the ball over five times.

Without Penix under center, opposing defenses routinely condensed secondary coverage, stacking the box to eliminate underneath routes and daring Atlanta to beat them deep. Penix is far from a contender in the NFL MVP odds; in nine games last year – his second in the league – he completed just 60.1% of his passes for 1,982 yards, nine TDs, and three picks with a subpar 88.5 passer rating.

But relativity is key here. Penix should be a sizable improvement over the Rush/Strand combo. His live arm immediately restores vertical boundary throwing, forcing Green Bay’s safeties out of the box and preventing defensive backs from squatting on short patterns.

This downfield threat creates crucial breathing room for Bijan Robinson and Atlanta’s ground attack, which has maintained an efficient 138.5 rushing yards per game despite facing loaded boxes. Atlanta gains the schematic balance required to sustain drives, significantly elevating their scoring floor in a fast-paced primetime environment and justifying the upward momentum in market pricing.
