The Edmonton Oilers are heading west to face the Vancouver Canucks in a highly anticipated Pacific Division rematch. They had a thrilling tilt to start the season Tuesday, which saw Vancouver lead 5-2 in the third period, then Edmonton storm back to tie it, only for the Canucks to win in overtime 6-5. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Evan Bouchard just lit the lamp for a massive five-point night, and on the other side, Vancouver received a balanced scoring attack, highlighted by a two-goal performance from Paul Cotter, including the OT winner. The road squad are the favourites in the NHL odds in an effort to exact some revenge. Keep reading for my analysis of this Western Conference skirmish.
Oilers vs Canucks Prediction
- Vancouver Canucks YES (36¢ at Kalshi)
The public loves backing heavy favourites with superstar talent, but the underlying numbers tell a different story. Edmonton generated 37 shots on goal in their opening tilt, compared to 23 for their counterparts. However, their inability to convert that pressure into a secure lead is a major red flag for bettors laying steep juice.
Vancouver is incredibly comfortable operating as an underdog. The Canucks are 4-1 straight up in their last five games as underdogs, a stretch that obviously extends back to last season. They capitalized on special teams in the season opener, scoring on the power play, and also a shorthanded marker.
Tristan Jarry surrendered six goals on just 23 shots for a dismal .739 save percentage. Until the road squad proves they can keep the puck out of their own net, grabbing the home underdog offers significant leverage.

If you are exploring alternative ways to wager, Kalshi offers event contracts where you buy shares on a “YES” or “NO” outcome. Buying a “YES” share for the Oilers costs 66 cents, translating to traditional -194 odds. If they win the game, that share cashes out at exactly $1.00.
Taking the Canucks at 36 cents offers tremendous value, sitting at a +178 American equivalent. A winning share yields the same $1.00 payout, returning your initial 36-cent investment plus 64 cents in profit before standard trading fees. Oilers vs Canucks Goaltending Matchup
Kevin Lankinen is the projected starter for the home side, aiming to string together consecutive victories. He faced a heavy workload in his first outing but made the timely saves required to secure the two points in overtime.
Tristan Jarry was lit up for six goals on 23 shots in the opener. There’s a solid chance he sits tonight, and instead Edmonton goes with off-season acquisition Devon Levi instead (he didn’t play in the NHL at all last season).
