  • The Pittsburgh Steelers clash with division rival Cleveland Browns Thursday night
  • Pittsburgh has just one win in their last eight games in Cleveland
  • Keep reading for the Steelers vs Browns public betting trends for this Week 4 NFL tilt

The AFC North rivalry heats up as the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to take on the Cleveland Browns in a highly anticipated Week 4 clash. Entering the matchup as road favorites, Pittsburgh will look to assert divisional dominance against a home underdog aiming to protect their field.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 PM ET / 5:15 PM PT Thursday night, at Huntington Bank Field, with this primetime showdown broadcast nationally on Amazon Prime Video and TSN in Canada.

While the public is heavily backing certain outcomes, professional bettors are actively laying their stakes on the other side of the aisle. I always look to see where the tickets are landing versus where the actual cash is flowing. Let’s break down the NFL public betting trends driving the action for this primetime tilt.

Pittsburgh vs Cleveland Public Betting Splits

MarketSideOddsBet %Money %

MoneylineBrowns+12521%16%
TotalOver38.5 (-105)83%83%
TotalUnder38.5 (-115)17%17%

Taking a look at the distribution across NFL betting apps, Pittsburgh commands the lion’s share of the action across multiple markets. Bettors are heavily backing the road squad on the moneyline, indicating a slight sharp signal favoring the favorites with a higher handle than ticket percentage.

A similar trend is evident against the spread, where the favorites are taking in more cash than tickets to cover the three-point number. Meanwhile, the game total is seeing incredibly one-sided volume. A staggering amount of the bet and money percentages are pouring in on the Over.

With the handle and ticket counts aligned so closely on the total, it appears that both casual bettors and sharp money are united in anticipating more offensive production than the 38.5-point NFL odds suggest.

Fade or Tail the Public: Steelers vs Browns Predictions

When evaluating this Week 4 AFC North showdown, the betting public has drawn a clear line in the sand. They are backing Pittsburgh to cover the spread and expecting a shootout that pushes the game Over the 38.5-point total.

But should you follow the crowd, or is there value in fading the consensus? Here is why I split my strategy by tailing the public on the spread while confidently fading them on the total.

Tail the Public: Steelers -3 (-105)

The public is laying the points with the road favorites, and the seasonal statistics strongly suggest they are on the right side of this massive divisional clash. Pittsburgh’s offense has been objectively more productive than Cleveland’s through the early stretch of the season.

The road team is averaging 303.3 total yards per game compared to a stagnant ground and pound attack that is managing just 266.0 yards per contest. Furthermore, Pittsburgh holds a distinct advantage in the turnover battle, which is often the deciding factor in tight divisional affairs.

The favorites boast a positive turnover differential (+1), supported by a defense that has already generated three interceptions and two fumble recoveries while racking up 8.0 sacks. On the flip side, Cleveland sits at a -1 turnover differential.

With the favorites showing slightly better third-down efficiency, converting at a 32.4 percent clip compared to a 30.6 percent mark for the home squad, taking the points is the smart play. Tailing the public action aligns perfectly with the underlying metrics, so use our DraftKings promo to lock in the spread.

Fade the Public: Under 38.5 Points (-115)

Despite heavy tickets and handle flooding in on the Over, the raw data screams for bettors to look the other way. Fading the public on the total is the most compelling angle of this matchup, as line movement and public money do not equal true value.

To start, these two offenses are simply not putting enough points on the board to justify an Over bet, even at a relatively low 38.5-point line. Pittsburgh is averaging just 17.7 points per game, while Cleveland is slightly behind them at 17.3 points per contest.

If both teams play exactly to their season averages, the game ends at exactly 35 combined points. That falls well below the closing number. The underlying efficiency metrics also paint a grim picture for scoring opportunities. Both squads have well-documented red zone efficiency struggles.

The home team is converting just 37.5 percent of their red zone trips into touchdowns. The road squad has been even worse, cashing in on a dismal 33.3 percent of their opportunities inside the 20-yard line.

Couple those offensive woes with two capable defensive schemes that have combined for 15 sacks this season, and this primetime clash has all the makings of a low-scoring slugfest. Start betting at Caesars now and fade the heavy public action by locking in the Under.
