- One ACC spread has moved nearly 10 points between its opening number and now
- Only one game on the 17-game board has flipped favorites outright
- Read below for every Week 5 spread and total move, plus where the ticket and money splits disagree
The Week 5 board runs Friday and Saturday, October 2 and 3, and a few of these numbers look nothing like where they opened. One ACC spread has moved nearly double digits.
I track openers against current consensus because the gap tells you how the market changed its mind, not just what it thinks now. The college football odds below cover the 17 games tracked here.
I have also pulled the ticket and stake splits for each game. Where those two disagree with each other, or with the direction the line went, that is usually where the interesting stuff is. You can follow the NCAAF Public Betting Trends for more on where bets and money are landing.
Updated Week 5 College Football Odds: Spreads
Opening and current numbers are consensus lines as of October 1. Splits are listed as tickets / stake from the same feed. Worth comparing the current board at other College Football betting apps.
Miami vs Clemson Spread: Biggest Week 5 Line Move
Miami at Clemson is the move of the week and it is not close. The consensus opener was Miami -7 and the current number is Miami -16.5, a 9.5-point swing. What makes it odder is the split, with handle almost dead even at Miami 50.41% and Clemson 49.59%.
West Virginia vs Iowa State Odds: Favorite Flips
West Virginia at Iowa State is the only game where the favorite flipped. The Mountaineers opened -1.5 and the Cyclones are now -3, yet the current splits lean the other way with West Virginia on 50.80% of tickets and 60.60% of the stake. That is a divergence I flag rather than explain.
Penn State and Michigan Spreads Shorten
Two road favorites shrank hard. Penn State went from -7 to -2.5 at Northwestern and Michigan slid from -8.5 to -5.5 at Minnesota. In both cases the current tickets and money still sit on the favorite, Penn State at 63.65% and 63.07%, Michigan at 60.57% and 65.37%. The numbers came down anyway.
Other Week 5 CFB Spread Moves and Betting Splits
Louisville at NC State has a notable bet-versus-money gap. Louisville holds 64.90% of tickets while NC State takes 52.98% of the stake, and the line dropped from Louisville -6.5 to -3.5. Pitt at Virginia Tech has a different pattern: Pitt has 59.81% of tickets, Virginia Tech has 62.94% of the stake, and the spread crossed 3 down to Virginia Tech -2.5. The Hokies are scoring 43.3 points a game.
Liberty at Delaware crossed 7 in the same shape, with Liberty on 62.99% of tickets and Delaware taking 51.03% of the stake. Washington at USC is the one I keep returning to, though. USC holds 82.90% of the money and the Trojans still went from -10 to -8.5.
Florida at Missouri is the game where everything agrees. Florida opened -2.5, moved through 3 to -5, and holds 82.84% of tickets with 89.89% of the stake. When the line and both splits point the same way, there is nothing to untangle.
Week 5 College Football Totals: Over/Under Line Movement
Miami vs Clemson and Vanderbilt vs Georgia Total Moves
The Miami at Clemson total fell eight points, from 55.5 to 47.5, the biggest total move on this board. The Over currently holds 74.30% of tickets and 73.35% of the stake. A number falling that far while the money sits on the other side is worth noting, even if one snapshot cannot tell me the order of events.
Vanderbilt at Georgia dropped seven points, 57.5 to 50.5, and here the market agrees with itself. The Under has 76.49% of tickets and 76.08% of the stake. Georgia is averaging 54.8 points and Vanderbilt 27.8, but those scoring averages alone do not explain why the total moved.
BYU, Penn State and Florida Over/Under Moves
BYU at TCU sank five points to 47.5 on a much thinner split, with the Under holding 54.30% of the stake. Penn State at Northwestern went the opposite way from the money, dropping three points to 45.5 while the Over sits on 78.34% of tickets and 80.10% of the stake.
Florida at Missouri is the strangest total on the board. It climbed four points to 57.5 while the Under holds 88.45% of tickets and 87.16% of the stake. That is a four-point move away from nearly nine of every ten dollars currently in the market.
Other Week 5 College Football Totals and Betting Splits
Two totals that did not budge deserve more attention than some that did. Louisville at NC State is still 58.5 with 91.50% of tickets and 90.74% of the stake on the Under, and Auburn at Tennessee is still 54.5 with the Under at 90.05% and 90.12%. Those splits have not been accompanied by a change in the consensus total.
Alabama at Mississippi State rose two points, 58.5 to 60.5, with the Under holding 58.10% of the stake. Ohio State at Iowa and West Virginia at Iowa State each edged up one point, while Michigan State at Wisconsin fell two points to 43.5.
