Saturday’s college football board has some expensive favorites. That makes the choice between laying points and buying an outright-win contract especially important in Week 5.
I have narrowed my prediction market picks to three marquee games. Each has a different statistical case, and the price matters just as much as which team looks better on paper.
Below, you’ll find the positions I like on the prediction market apps. Keep reading for my college football prediction market picks for Week 5, including the top Kalshi and Polymarket bets.
College Football Week 5 Prediction Market Picks
Prices from October 1 for October 3 games from Kalshi and Polymarket. Platform fees and bid-ask spreads affect the final cost.
Ohio State vs Iowa Prediction
- Pick: Ohio State to win (85¢ at Kalshi)
Ohio State’s statistical case starts with a 45 points-per-game offense against Iowa’s 32.8. The National Championship odds contender also average 522 yards per game, compared with 429 for the Hawkeyes, and have converted 44.4% of third downs versus Iowa’s 39.2%.
The red-zone split is similarly favorable: Ohio State has converted 90.5% of its red-zone opportunities, while Iowa is at 84.6%. Ohio State also has 103 first downs and a +2 turnover differential; Iowa has 87 first downs and a +4 differential, giving the home team one counterargument in a potentially close game.
At 85¢, Ohio State carries an implied 85% chance to win, roughly -567 in American moneyline odds before fees. I prefer paying for the outright win here rather than needing a comfortable road margin. New users can review the Kalshi promo code before opening a position.
Alabama vs Mississippi State Prediction
- Pick: Alabama to win (67% buy shown at Polymarket)
Alabama has the stronger scoring profile in Starkville, averaging 47.5 points per game to Mississippi State’s 43. The Crimson Tide average 471.5 yards per game, while the Bulldogs average 533.2, so Alabama’s advantage is more about scoring efficiency than total yardage.
The most decisive current number is red-zone conversion: Alabama is 100.0% on 19 attempts, compared with Mississippi State’s 88.9% on 18. Alabama also owns a +5 turnover differential and has recorded 11 sacks and six interceptions; Mississippi State is at -1, with nine sacks and two interceptions.
Polymarket displayed Alabama at a 67% buy quote, equivalent to roughly -203 American odds. That percentage is the displayed market quote, rather than a guarantee of the final fill. This is the least expensive favorite on my card, and Alabama’s turnover advantage is the deciding factor for me. The Polymarket sign-up bonus is another consideration for new users; enter DIME when signing up.
Miami vs Clemson Prediction
- Pick: Miami to win (88¢ at Kalshi)
Miami owns the largest offensive gap among these three selections, averaging 51.2 points and 588.8 yards per game. Clemson is averaging 21 points and 314 yards. Miami has also converted 55.6% of third downs led by Heisman Trophy odds candidate Darian Mensah, compared with Clemson’s 27.3%.
The Hurricanes’ red-zone rate is 90.5%, close to Clemson’s 90.9%, but Miami has reached the red zone 21 times and converted 19 of those trips. Miami also has a +2 turnover differential, 10 sacks, and 123 first downs; Clemson has 73 first downs and a -2 turnover differential.
Miami’s 88¢ price implies an 88% chance of winning, or approximately -733 in American moneyline terms. It is the most expensive position here, but I like the gap in sustained production. Clemson’s comparable red-zone percentage matters less when the Tigers are creating so many fewer first downs and scoring opportunities.
