Nearly a decade of trash talk and finger-pointing will finally come to an end when Tyson Fury (36-2-1) and Anthony Joshua (30-4) meet in a Dec. 11 main event in Wales. Despite both being well past their athletic prime, the fight is being promoted as the biggest in British boxing history.

Fury and Joshua are both coming off tune-up fights in preparation for one another. Fury last defeated 46-year-old Mariusz Wach by seventh-round retirement in a non-televised bout, one day before Joshua rallied to avoid a potentially catastrophic loss to Kristian Prenga.

It has been nothing but non-stop negotiation banter and headache-inducing back-and-forth, but the matchup is finally official. Opening odds have since been released for what will be an electric night, regardless of the bothersome circumstances.

With all the factors at play, Tyson Fury is trading as the slight favorite on Kalshi at 63 cents, which translates to roughly -170 in American odds. Joshua is the underdog at 41 cents, translating to roughly +140.

The odds imply Fury has a 63 percent chance to beat Joshua, while Joshua is being given a 41 percent shot at the upset. After normalizing the market, Fury’s win probability comes out closer to 61 percent, with Joshua at 39 percent.

Throughout their careers, Fury has always been deemed the better boxer of the two, making it no surprise that he is the betting favorite at this stage of their careers.

Early Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua Prediction

Tyson Fury is two years older than Anthony Joshua, but it is clear from their recent performances that these two longtime rivals are both at the very end of the road. Joshua’s fighting style and recent results have clearly taken nearly everything from him, potentially leaving him with even less in the remaining tank.

Both former champions have lost a lot of speed and reaction time that comes for all boxers at the end of their careers. For Joshua, that leaves him with almost no defense or durability, leading to him nearly getting stopped in the first round by Kristian Prenga.

Fury has always been a better boxer than Joshua, with a stronger jab, better overall movement and cleaner defense. With Joshua seemingly declining more than him, ‘The Gypsy King’ should be able to use his height and reach advantage to gain the upper hand.

More than anything, Joshua’s durability is the biggest X-factor in this fight in the most negative light. ‘AJ’ has now been dropped six times in his last seven rounds against legitimate heavyweights, including nearly losing consciousness on Prenga’s first solid connection.

Joshua still has power, but he has to get past Fury’s reach to land it. Without reliable defense and virtually no durability, that is a tall task against a long, accurate sniper. If Prenga can hurt Joshua, a 38-year-old Fury certainly still can.

Fury is currently two years older than Joshua, but the latter will be 37 on fight night, making them only one year apart on Dec. 11.

‘The Gypsy King’ otherwise owns a three-inch height and reach advantage that he certainly maximizes in each of his fights. Both fight behind orthodox stances and undoubtedly have a lot of information on one another after having simultaneously reigned over the heavyweight division for years.

A lot can still happen before Dec. 11, but at long last, Fury and Joshua appear to finally be on a collision course.
