Western Conference supremacy takes center stage Thursday, as the Oklahoma City Thunder (1-0) host the Denver Nuggets (0-0) at Paycom Center. National television coverage caps off ESPN’s opening-week doubleheader at 6:30 PM PT / 9:30 PM ET.
Coming off a gritty opening-night road battle in San Antonio, the Thunder enter their home opener as commanding 8.5-point favorites (-311 ML), with the game total set at 235.5 points in the NBA odds. OKC’s offense is already humming behind MVP runner-up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who opened his campaign with an electric 32-point display. On the other side, three-time MVP Nikola Jokić makes his season debut, tasked with conducting Denver’s offense against the league’s most-suffocating perimeter defense.

Nuggets vs Thunder Prediction & Best Bets
I am backing the home favorites to cover the number. Looking at the Kalshi prediction markets, securing Thunder -7.5 at 53¢ (an implied -113 payout) offers exceptional value compared to standard sportsbooks laying -8.5.
Spread Pick: Thunder -7.5 (53¢ / -113 at Kalshi)
The situational trends heavily reinforce this lean. Oklahoma City enters this home opener riding a blistering 10-1 straight-up stretch over their last eleven regular-season contests, picking up right where they left off after an opening-night road victory in San Antonio.
In contrast, the Nuggets showed noticeable cracks in away environments late last season, going a dismal 1-3 straight up in their last four road tests and stumbling to a 1-4 mark in their last five against opponents with winning records.
In six of their last eight meetings, including playoffs, OKC has come away the victor, and I’m bullish on them doing so again, and covering the spread.
Game-Total Pick: Under 234.5 Points (48¢ / +108 at Kalshi)
For the total, the Under 234.5 provides the sharpest angle on the board. While traditional sportsbooks hold the total at 235.5 with -110 juice, Kalshi prices “No” on over 234.5 points at 48¢, effectively offering an attractive +108 plus-money payout.
Oklahoma City boasts a suffocating, league-leading defense that held opponents to just 107.9 points per game last year and forced turnovers at the NBA’s highest rate. Expect the visiting Nuggets to display noticeable opening-night rust in their offensive timing and perimeter shooting as they attempt to match OKC’s blistering pace in their season debut.
Denver’s halfcourt offense naturally bogs down into deliberate, late-clock sets orchestrated through Nikola Jokić. With Oklahoma City capable of locking down passing lanes and contesting every interior touch, this clash profiles as a physical defensive grinder that falls well short of 235 combined points.
Best Player Prop: SGA 31+ Points (-113 at Novig) – CLAIM SBD’S EXCLUSIVE NOVIG PROMO CODE .
When attacking the prop markets, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander going over 30.5 points is something I’ve honed in on. The MVP runner-up wasted no time asserting his scoring supremacy on opening night, racking up 32 points on 27 field goal attempts in 36 minutes against San Antonio.
What makes this over irresistible is SGA’s complete and utter mastery over Denver’s defense. Throughout their regular-season clashes last year, Gilgeous-Alexander was completely unguardable against the Nuggets’ drop coverage, pouring in 34, 36, and 35 points in three consecutive regular-season meetings while shooting an extraordinary 56.1% from the field and averaging 10.0 free throw attempts.
DEN vs OKC Odds & Betting Splits
Odds as of October 22 at Kalshi.
The traditional point spread opened at 7.5 and has since moved 1 point in the home squad’s direction to 8.5. The game total moved up 3 points from an opening 232.5 to 235.5.
A $20 wager on the underdog at Kalshi’s approximate +270 odds yields a $54.07 profit, while the same $20 bet on the favorite nets a $7.02 profit.
Looking at the handle in the NBA public betting splits, bettors are heavily backing the underdog to cover. The Nuggets are pulling 75.1% of the ATS tickets and 73.4% of the money.
Bettors are also anticipating a shootout, jamming the Over with 65.2% of the tickets and 66.4% of the handle.
