Week 8 of the 2026 college football season serves up a fantastic Friday slate. I am digging into the trenches to find value just slightly off the national radar. There are plenty of intriguing spots where road favorites and tricky home underdogs clash.
Finding an edge requires looking past the marquee names and diving deep into the field position battle and red zone efficiency. Compelling ACC matchups and gritty non-conference showdowns present prime opportunities for Friday college football predictions. Spotting the right situational betting angles against various defensive schemes is how I build a profitable card.
I am breaking down the spread and total markets to uncover where the true value lies on this schedule. Let’s jump into the numbers and lock in my Friday college football picks and predictions for the start of the weekend.
Friday College Football Picks & Predictions
Prices checked Oct. 22. BetMGM prices are rounded American equivalents; Air Force -5.5 and NC State -6.5 are alternate spreads. FCS contract prices are from Polymarket; winning contracts pay $1 before fees. Prices can change.

Six of my seven spread picks back the road team, with Delaware State the lone home side. The totals lean slightly under, four to three, while Duke and Army are the only underdogs catching points in my three featured matchups.

Friday College Football Pick #1: Duke vs. Virginia Prediction
My Duke vs Virginia prediction starts with an offense that puts up 31.7 points and 442.7 total yards per game. They sustain drives beautifully, boasting a massive 46.5% third down conversion rate.
Virginia’s defense is a real test, allowing just 19.7 points per game. Still, Duke has surrendered only two sacks in six games and has scored on 22 of 27 red zone trips this season.
Superior third down efficiency makes Duke a phenomenal play as a road underdog. Their offensive firepower should keep this game tight and help push the scoring past the 47.5 total.
Friday College Football Pick #2: Army vs. Tulsa Prediction
My Army vs Tulsa prediction favors a rushing attack putting up 34.8 points per game. They lean heavily on a punishing ground game that has already chewed up 2,145 rushing yards this season.
They also convert 52.1% of third downs and an elite 95.2% of red zone opportunities. Tulsa averages 29 points per game but struggles to maintain drives, posting a dismal 31.3% third down success rate.
I expect Army to control the clock and shorten this game. That ball-control style severely limits total possessions. Grabbing the points with the road team while taking the under is one of my favorite Friday college football picks on the board.
Friday College Football Pick #3: NC State vs. Stanford Prediction
My NC State vs Stanford prediction backs an offense generating 33 points and 426.3 total yards per game. They extend drives efficiently, hitting on 51.1% of third down attempts and 85.2% in the red zone.
Stanford has struggled offensively through seven games. The Cardinal average 18.3 points per game with a 33.3% conversion rate.
The visitors possess too much firepower for a sputtering Stanford offense to keep pace with. I like NC State to cover this spread, but the home team’s offensive woes will drag the combined scoring down, making the under an excellent situational angle.
