The Washington Capitals (6-4-0) welcome the Philadelphia Flyers (3-7-4) to Capital One Arena on Wednesday, and the schedule isn’t doing the visitors any favors. Philly fell to Columbus on Tuesday, a 4-in overtime, so they’re playing on consecutive nights against a team that’s been strong at home.
Washington is 5-2 in its own building this season and comes in off an entertaining finish. Alex Tuch and Dylan Strome each scored twice in Saturday’s 4-3 overtime win over Buffalo, giving the Caps’ attack some momentum heading into this one.
Puck drop is set for 7:30 pm ET, with TNT, truTV and HBO Max carrying the broadcast. Keep reading for my Flyers vs Capitals prediction, the latest lineup notes, and my NHL picks for Wednesday night.
Flyers vs Capitals Prediction
- Capitals Moneyline (69¢ / (-223) on Kalshi)
My Flyers vs Capitals prediction is Washington to win at home. The Caps have taken five of seven at Capital One Arena, and they draw a Philadelphia team that needed extra time to finish its game against Columbus a night earlier. That’s a rough turnaround for a club still searching for consistency.
Philadelphia has only three wins in 14 games, with seven losses in regulation. Washington was on the practice ice Tuesday while the Flyers ground through overtime, so the Capitals should have fresher legs to match their better record.
Kalshi has the Capitals YES contract at 69 cents, which works out to roughly a 68% implied chance to win. The Flyers YES contract sits at 33 cents. If you’re new to prediction markets, check out the Kalshi promo code before you take a position on the home side.
Washington’s offense also gave us something to like on Saturday. Tuch and Strome combined for four goals against Buffalo, and the Caps closed out a one-goal game in overtime. That finish stands out against a Flyers team that already has four regulation losses.
Flyers vs Capitals Lineups
The biggest question for the Flyers vs Capitals lineups is in the Washington crease. Logan Thompson fully participated in Tuesday’s practice after dealing with a lower-body injury, but his status for Wednesday remains unconfirmed.
Philadelphia’s plan looks a little clearer. Dan Vladar was in net against Columbus on Tuesday, so Joseph Woll is likely to start on the second night of the set. The Flyers haven’t made it official yet, but it’s the expected move after Vladar went the distance in overtime.
Washington’s blue line gets good news: Jakob Chychrun is expected to be ready. The Caps are still short on defense, though. Rasmus Sandin is out following knee surgery, and Vincent Desharnais is sidelined after an appendectomy.
NHL Picks for Wednesday
I’m sticking with the home side for my NHL picks on Wednesday, targeting two Capitals forwards in the NHL Player Props market who have been steady shooters. The prices below are targets, rather than confirmed sportsbook quotes; I want those numbers or better.
Flyers vs Capitals Pick: Ryan Leonard Shots
- Ryan Leonard Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (-165 at BetMGM)
My Ryan Leonard prediction focuses on his recent shot volume rather than needing him to score. He recorded at least two shots in each of his last five appearances, including three against Buffalo and two against Los Angeles. That gives this 1.5 line a stronger foundation than chasing a goal.
The available theScore Bet market is a higher 2.5-shot line at +135. I prefer waiting for 1.5 at my target of -152 or better, roughly a 60% implied chance, rather than treating those different lines as the same wager.
Flyers vs Capitals Pick: Dylan Strome Shots
- Dylan Strome Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (target: -220 at Bet365)
Strome’s shot volume has climbed lately. He’s racked up 12 shots over his last three games, with five against Buffalo, four against Los Angeles and three against New Jersey. The Buffalo game was a big one, as he added an assist to his two goals.
He’s at 24 shots through 10 games for a 2.4 average, which sits comfortably above this line. TheScore Bet currently lists Over 1.5 at -200, so my NHL picks target of -164 requires a better price before betting.
