  • UNLV returns from its second bye week to host winless Northern Illinois on Halloween night

UNLV hosts Northern Illinois at Allegiant Stadium on Halloween night, which doubles as Nevada Day. The Rebels (4-3, 2-1 Mountain West) are coming off their second bye week after a loss at Air Force snapped a three-game win streak. The Huskies (0-7, 0-3) are still searching for their first win in their debut Mountain West season.

Northern Illinois owns this series 5-0, so UNLV is still chasing its first-ever win over the Huskies. Below, I break down my Northern Illinois vs UNLV prediction, the latest odds and how to watch.

Northern Illinois vs UNLV Prediction

Prediction: A rested UNLV team wins by more than three touchdowns, and its defense keeps Northern Illinois quiet enough to stay Under the total.

UNLV comes out of its second bye week fresh and back home, where the Rebels are 7-2 under second-year head coach Dan Mullen. They’ve won 17 of their last 23 games at Allegiant Stadium. Northern Illinois arrives without a win, so the gap between these programs is wide right now.

Jackson Arnold is the engine. The Auburn transfer leads the league with 16 total touchdowns, ranking second in passing scores (10) and third in rushing scores (6). He also went 142 attempts before throwing his first interception. A quarterback who scores two ways and rarely gives the ball away is what a 24-point cover requires: sustained scoring drives without the turnovers that hand an overmatched opponent cheap points.

Mullen’s teams also close. UNLV is 12-1 under him when leading after three quarters, part of a 31-2 run since 2023. The real risk is margin, not result: a 23-point win still loses this ticket if the Rebels ease off late. With a rested roster and Arnold accounting for a league-leading 16 touchdowns, I trust them to clear that bar.

Northern Illinois vs UNLV Pick #2: Under 53.5

  • Pick: Under 53.5 (48¢ on Polymarket)

UNLV’s defense has been suffocating in its best performances. The Rebels held North Dakota State to seven points in their last home game, the fewest by a Mountain West opponent at UNLV since 2007. They also limited Hawaii to six points on Sept. 5, marking the first time since 1986 the program has held two league opponents to single digits.

That’s the path to the Under. A restrained Northern Illinois contribution does most of the work: UNLV can score 40 and this total still stays below 54 if the Huskies are held to 13 or fewer. Arnold’s ball security matters here too, since fewer giveaways mean fewer short fields for NIU. Once UNLV builds a lead, the late-game script should favor clock-draining possessions over a track meet.

Both picks point to the same game: a decisive UNLV win built on defense.

Northern Illinois vs UNLV Odds

MarketPolymarket Prices
MoneylineUNLV 94¢ / Northern Illinois 7¢
SpreadUNLV -23.5 51¢ / Northern Illinois +23.5 50¢
TotalOver 53.5 54¢ / Under 53.5 48¢

Polymarket prices work as implied probabilities. A 51¢ contract on UNLV -23.5 implies a 51% chance of a cover, and the Under at 48¢ implies 48%. At 94¢, the moneyline shows the market expects a Rebels win. The real betting question is the margin and how much Northern Illinois adds to the scoreboard.
