Auburn and Ole Miss each need a response after last week’s defeats. Auburn lost 38-17 to LSU, and Ole Miss dropped a 34-27 decision to Texas. The Rebels still bring a strong home edge into Saturday, riding 15 straight wins in Oxford.

Trinidad Chambliss gives Ole Miss the edge at quarterback. He has thrown for 1,926 yards and 16 touchdowns, including 250 yards and two scores against Texas. Auburn counters with Byrum Brown, who has 1,365 passing yards and another 480 on the ground.

Saturday’s game is set for 12:45 p.m. ET on Oct. 31 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, and will be shown on the SEC Network. Below, I break down my final prediction, both picks and where the college football odds stand heading into kickoff.

Final Auburn vs Ole Miss Prediction

Prediction: Ole Miss wins by double digits in a game that clears 57.5 total points.

Ole Miss has the cleaner offensive path. Auburn’s defense allows 24.1 points and 396.9 yards per game, and opponents have scored on 95.2% of their red-zone trips against the Tigers. That is a tough profile against a Rebels offense that scores on 96.2% of its own red-zone chances.

Deuce Alexander is the matchup piece to watch. He averages 87.7 receiving yards per game with five touchdowns and has caught at least five passes in six of seven games. Auburn has to find an answer for him without leaving the rest of the field open.

Auburn’s best counter is Brown. He has accounted for 14 total touchdowns, eight passing and six rushing, and Keshaun Singleton gives him a reliable target with 36 catches for 431 yards. The Tigers average 376.6 yards per game, so they can move the ball in this Auburn vs Ole Miss matchup.

I’m taking Ole Miss -10.5 rather than staking the main recommendation on a costly moneyline. The Rebels have won 15 straight home games, and their passing attack lines up well against an Auburn defense allowing nearly 400 yards per game.

The risk is Brown. His legs can extend drives and keep Auburn within range late. Still, Ole Miss turns red-zone trips into points at an elite rate, and that should be enough to build a home margin above 10.5. That said, Brown can also be Auburn’s greatest enemy, with his erratic accuracy and tendency to turn the ball over. Brown has seven interceptions this season on just 209 passes.

As a runner, though, Brown is among the best in the country. He leads the Tigers in rushing, stabilizing a unit that has been shaky for years.

The Over 57.5 is my other play, and it rests on a different part of the matchup. Ole Miss has the scoring capacity to account for a large portion of the number, especially with Chambliss coming off a 250-yard, two-touchdown effort against Texas.

Auburn has to hold up its end, and the Tigers have the tools. They average 25.4 points per game, and Brown forces Ole Miss to defend both his arm and his legs. Add an Auburn defense that rarely keeps opponents off the board inside the 20, and this game has a clear path past 57.5.
