2025 Heisman Trophy Odds

The 2025 Heisman Trophy race had no shortage of plot twists. Texas QB Arch Manning opened as the favorite but tanked after a rough debut against Ohio State.

John Mateer took over as the favorite before a hand injury derailed his campaign. That opened the door for Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, who carried the Hoosiers to their first-ever Big Ten title with a 13-0 regular season, 2,980 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, and just six picks.

Mendoza sealed the trophy with a gutsy performance in the Big Ten Championship game against Ohio State.

Below, see how the 2025 Heisman Trophy odds changed over the course of the season.

2025 Heisman Odds Movement

  • [December 7] Fernando Mendoza locks up the Heisman at -2000 after leading Indiana to a 13-10 win over Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship. He throws for 222 yards and a touchdown despite taking a brutal hit on the game’s first play. Julian Sayin craters from +190 to +50000 after struggling in the loss. Diego Pavia briefly becomes the favorite at -110 when both quarterbacks throw early interceptions, but finishes at +1400 once Mendoza delivers in the clutch.
  • [October 20] Fernando Mendoza strengthens his lead, tightening from +453 to +333 after his 332-yard, four-touchdown performance against Michigan State. Julian Sayin makes a massive jump, shortening from +1650 to +400 after throwing for 393 yards and four touchdowns against Wisconsin. Diego Pavia improves from +5250 to +850 after striking the Heisman pose in Vanderbilt’s upset of LSU.
  • [September 23] Fernando Mendoza takes over as the Heisman favorite after John Mateer’s injury news breaks. Mateer needs surgery on his right hand and will miss approximately a month, with his odds immediately pulled from most sportsbooks. Mendoza, fresh off his five-touchdown performance against Illinois, moves to +650 and becomes the new betting favorite.
  • [September 22] John Mateer holds onto the top spot at +825 before his injury, while Fernando Mendoza sits at +875. Carson Beck’s odds drift to +1400, Dante Moore is at +1150, and Josh Hoover makes a huge jump to +1600 from +4717 the previous week after his five-touchdown game against SMU.
  • [September 15] After Week 3, John Mateer strengthens his position as the favorite at +875. Carson Beck sits second at +700, while Fernando Mendoza is a distant +2650. Gunner Stockton (+1267) and Jeremiah Smith (+1533) round out the top five.
  • [September 2] Florida State’s Tommy Castellanos makes the week’s biggest move after stunning Alabama. His odds rocket from +12500 to +3000 following his 150-yard passing, 75-yard rushing performance in the 31-17 upset.
  • [September 2] Arch Manning’s debut disaster sends him tumbling down the board. The Texas quarterback goes from +650 favorite to +1533 after throwing for just 170 yards with a pick in the 14-7 loss to Ohio State.
  • [August 22] Final preseason update shows Arch Manning as the +650 favorite, with Garrett Nussmeier at +883 and Cade Klubnik at +900 rounding out the top three.
  • [January 31] Arch Manning opens as the +750 favorite to win the 2025 Heisman Trophy. The Texas QB takes over a loaded offense despite limited 2024 snaps. LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier sits second at +800.

2024 Heisman Trophy Odds

Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter took home the 2024 Heisman in the closest voting margin since 2009, edging out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

Hunter opened the season as a 75-1 longshot and made college football history as the first player since Charles Woodson in 1997 to win the award while playing both offense and defense in every game.

Georgia’s Carson Beck was the preseason co-favorite alongside Texas QB Quinn Ewers and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, but none of them came close to the trophy by the end of the year.

Below, see how the 2024 Heisman Trophy odds shifted throughout the season.

Sports Betting Dime

2024 Heisman Odds Movement

  • Dec. 1: Travis Hunter has won the 2024 Heisman according to oddsmakers. The two-way star is -11429 on average with second-favorite Ashton Jeanty listed as a +2450 longshot. No other player is shorter than +15000.
  • Nov. 24: Despite his Colorado Buffaloes losing 37-21 at Kansas, Travis Hunter consolidated his status as Heisman favorite, shortening from -387 to -704. Second-favorite Ashton Jeanty is back at +554 with third-favorite Cameron Ward at +1333.
  • Nov. 17: A pedestrian outing from Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel against Wisconsin (a 16-13 Oregon win) allowed Travis Hunter to shorten from +112 to -387.
  • Nov. 10: A bad outing from Miami’s Cam Ward opened the door for Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter to take over as favorite at +120. Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel is now second at +301 while Ward faded to a distant fourth at +850.
  • Nov. 3: After a huge day against Duke, Miami’s Cam Ward surged to +189, his shortest odds yet this season. Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter is just behind Ward at +215 after Week 10 while Oregon pivot Dillon Gabriel is a close third at +287. Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty has faded to +505.
  • Oct. 27: After leading #1 Oregon to a 38-9 rout of #20 Illinois, Dillon Gabriel surged from +388 to the +243 favorite. Cam Ward is a close second at +283. Ashton Jeanty had a quiet Week 9 (127 yards, 1 TD) and faded fourth at +432.
  • Oct. 20: A big week from Miami’s Cam Ward (21/32, 319 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT in a 52-45 win over Louisville) boosted his odds from +675 to +233. Jeanty is still slightly favored at +230.
  • Oct. 13: After a 217-yard day against Hawai’i, Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty improved to +182. Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel also made a huge jump (from +1517 to +592) after leading his Ducks to a win over previously-unbeaten Ohio State.
  • Oct. 6: Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty moved from +1067 to +233 on average after Week 6, while second-favorite Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter improved from +679 to +324. Miami quarterback Cam Ward is now third at +414.

  • Sep. 16: Off to an electric 3-0 start with his new team, Miami pivot Cam Ward has become the +512 favorite in the 2024 Heisman odds, just ahead of a pair of SEC QBs: Jalen Milroe of Alabama and Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss.
  • Aug. 1: Gabriel continues to see improvement in his Heisman odds, overtaking Beck as the favorite at most sportsbooks. The ex-OU pivot is now +700 at both FanDuel and BetMGM.
  • Jul. 15: Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel has jumped to +800 odds, surpassing Texas QB Quinn Ewers to become co-favorite with Georgia’s Carson Beck. Gabriel’s odds improved after an impressive offseason showing.
  • Mar. 15: With more sportsbooks opening their Heisman odds, Milroe has faded to +1350, while Beck (+775) and Ewers (+800) have seen improvement in their price. This is primarily due to several notable Alabama players transferring out following Nick Saban’s retirement announcement.
  • Jan. 10: Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, Texas pivot Quinn Ewers and Alabama QB Jalen Milroe have opened as co-favorites to win the Heisman at DraftKings.

2023 Heisman Trophy Odds

The 2023 Heisman Trophy race came down to a tight finish between LSU’s Jayden Daniels and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr.

Daniels opened as a massive longshot, but he piled up nearly 5,000 total yards of offense and secured 503 first-place votes to take home the trophy.

Reigning Heisman winner Caleb Williams opened as the favorite to repeat, but his USC team fell apart in the second half of the season and he was out of the race by mid-October.

Below, see how the 2023 Heisman Trophy odds changed over the course of the season.

Sports Betting Dime

2023 Heisman Odds Movement

  • Dec. 2: A subpar performance from Oregon’s Bo Nix in the Pac-12 title game allowed LSU’s Jayden Daniels to soar to the top of the 2023 Heisman odds.
  • Nov. 5: Nix (+196) is now the second-favorite, narrowly behind Penix (+148). No other player is shorter than +775 (McCarthy) after Week 10.
  • Oct. 22: A subpar performance from favorite Michael Penix Jr in Washington’s 15-7 win over Arizona State allowed Michigan’s JJ McCarthy to jump him in the Heisman odds. After blowing out Michigan State 49-0 on the road, McCarthy is now +211 to win, on average, with Penix at +267. LSU’s Jayden Daniels improved to third-favorite (+458) with a 62-0 demolition of Army.
  • Oct. 15: After leading #7 UW to a huge comeback win over #8 Oregon, Penix Jr became the -137 odds-on favorite. It helped that Williams had a second straight subpar performance during USC’s 48-20 setback at Notre Dame. The reigning Heisman-winner faded all the way to seventh (from +251 to +2440).
  • Oct. 8: Penix Jr (+209) is narrowly ahead of Williams (+247) midway through the season with Nix (+644) and Gabriel (+930) the only other players shorter than +1000.
  • Sep. 24: Another huge week from Michael Penix Jr (+370) has launched the Washington pivot ahead of reigning Heisman-winner Caleb Williams (+411).
  • Sep. 10: After Texas’ stunning road upset of the Alabama, Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers improved to the +775 second-favorite, while Bama pivot Jalen Milroe faded from +2800 to +11000.
  • Sep 4: Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. became the second favorite in the Heisman odds (+825 average) after tossing five TD passes in a Week 1 win over Boise State. LSU’s Jayden Daniels, meanwhile, faded to +3500 after suffering an upset loss to Florida State.
  • Jul 17: UNC’s Drake Maye continues to slide in the Heisman odds, as he’s now sitting as a +1700 longshot bet after opening at +1000.
  • May. 1: Williams has faded from +425 to +500 following spring practice, while LSU’s Jayden Daniels has improved from +2000 to +1750.
  • Jan. 10: No surprise here. Reigning Heisman-winner Caleb Williams has opened as a sizable favorite to repeat in 2023.

2022 Heisman Trophy Odds

USC quarterback Caleb Williams opened as the third-favorite in the 2022 Heisman race and pulled off a wire-to-wire run that ended with 544 of 870 first-place votes.

He bounced through some longshot stretches midseason, but a strong November push locked it up.

Ohio State’s CJ Stroud was the season-long challenger, holding the favorite spot for most of October before fading after Ohio State’s loss to Michigan.

Below, see how the 2022 Heisman Trophy odds changed over the course of the season.

Sports Betting Dime

2022 Heisman Odds Movement

  • Nov. 27: Caleb Williams (-2350) led USC to a convincing win over Notre Dame while Stroud (+3250) came up flat against Michigan and Corum (off) got injured.
  • Nov. 20: After Tennessee’s embarrassing loss to South Carolina (63-38), Hendon Hooker fell out of the running completely. Caleb Williams (+130) led USC to a huge win at UCLA (48-45) and has emerged as the main challenger to CJ Stroud (-128).
  • Nov. 13: Stroud and Hooker fail to distance the pack, which has opened the door for Michigan RB Blake Corum and UNC QB Drake Maye to each improve to +525.
  • Nov. 6: Hooker had his worst game of the season at the worst possible time, throwing for just 195 yards, no TDs, and one INT in a 27-13 loss to Georgia. Stroud is once again the betting favorite at +180. Hooker faded to +290 on average.
  • Oct. 30: Hooker is now the betting favorite at -105 after another big week against Kentucky. Stroud put in a good performance against Penn State, but quite simply, Hooker has been better and only four regular-season games remain.
  • Oct. 23: The 2022 Heisman odds have become a two-horse race between Stroud (-103) and Hooker (+200). The third-favorite, USC’s Caleb Williams, is way back at +1300.
  • Oct. 9: More strong play from Ohio State’s CJ Stroud has made him the odds-on favorite at -135. The second-favorite, USC’s Caleb Williams, is all the way back at +1100.
  • Sep. 26: After leading Tennessee to a 4-0 start, Vols QB Hendon Hooker has entered the top five at +1600.
  • Sep. 4: A monster game in Week 1 versus Oregon has led Georgia QB Stetson Bennett into the top five (+2100). Sitting at +9000 before the game, Bennett threw for 368 yards, two TDs, and no picks in a 49-3 rout of the #11 Ducks.
  • June 19: The preseason odds have been kind to Stroud, who is now a +183 favorite. Young faded from +275 to +375. After third-favorite Caleb Williams at +800, there is a huge drop to fourth-favorite Jahmyr Gibbs (+3000).
  • Feb. 2: Young (+275) and Stroud (+475) continue to sit first and second in the odds, but Rattler, who announced a transfer to South Carolina, has faded from +700 to +3650. Incoming USC transfer Caleb Williams is now third at +850.
  • Dec. 12, 2021: Reigning Heisman-winner Bryce Young (QB, Alabama) is favored in the opening 2022 Heisman Trophy odds, followed by CJ Stroud (QB, Ohio State) and fellow QB Spencer Rattler, whose transfer destination is unclear at this point.

Closing 2022 Heisman Odds

Player Odds

2021 Heisman Trophy Odds

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young opened as the second-favorite and never let go of the top of the board for long.

He locked up the 2021 Heisman in a landslide with 684 of 875 first-place votes after carving up Georgia in the SEC title game. Preseason favorite Spencer Rattler fell off the map by mid-September.

The runners-up — Michigan edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, Pitt QB Kenny Pickett, and Ohio State’s CJ Stroud — never came close to Young’s final total.

Below, see how the 2021 Heisman Trophy odds changed throughout the season.

Sports Betting Dime

2021 Heisman Odds Movement

  • Dec. 12: Bryce Young won the 2021 Heisman in a landslide, garnering 684 of 875 first-place votes. He amassed 2,311 total points in the vote, while second-place Aidan Hutchinson has only 954. Hutchinson was also second in first-place votes with a distant 78.
  • Dec. 5: A dominant performance against a vaunted Georgia defense in the SEC title game has shortened Bryce Young’s Heisman odds to a prohibitively short -3417. Michigan edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson is the distant second-favorite at +1800.
  • Nov. 28: Even though his Alabama team struggled mightily as 19-point favorites against Auburn (needing four OTs to pull out the win), Crimson Tide QB Bryce Young is back atop the Heisman odds at -210. Last week’s favorite, Ohio State QB CJ Stroud, was beaten handily by Michigan. Speaking of the Wolverines, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson is on the board for the first time this year … as the third-favorite.
  • Nov. 21: Stroud has taken over as the (heavy) favorite, sitting at -210 after he led his Buckeyes to a 56-7 demolition of No. 7 Michigan State.
  • Nov. 14: Ohio State’s CJ Stroud became a +183 favorite, passing Alabama’s Bryce Young (+215) and MSU’s Kenneth Walker (+365). Oklahoma QB Caleb Williams faded from +750 to +4000 after the Sooners suffered their first loss of the season to Baylor.
  • Nov. 8: The engine behind Michigan State’s still-perfect season, Kenneth Walker III is now the second-favorite at +345, narrowly ahead of Ohio State QB CJ Stroud (+350).
  • Nov. 1: Bryce Young (+165) is the clear favorite with Matt Corral fading to +550. But CJ Stroud (+400), Kenneth Walker (+550), and Caleb Williams (+825) have all moved into the top tier of contenders.
  • Oct. 24: Pitt’s Kenny Pickett improved from +2100 to +950 after taking down six-time reigning ACC champion Clemson (27-17).
  • Oct. 17: New Oklahoma starter Caleb Williams is on the board at +3750, immediately becoming a top-seven favorite after 1.5 games as the Sooners’ signal-caller.
  • Oct. 10: Bama’s loss to Texas A&M sent Young’s odds from +123 to +190. Corral improved to +200 after edging Arkansas in a thriller. Michigan State RB Kenneth Walker is now in the top four at +1600. He was off the board to start the year and +10000 after Week 1.

  • Sep. 26: Corral (+150) and Young (+238) remain way ahead of the field. But Fresno State QB Jake Haener is on the board for the first time and immediately entered the top ten at +4000.
  • Sep. 19: Matt Corral is now the outright favorite at +175. Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder is in the top four at +1900. Spencer Rattler (+1950) and DJ Uiagalelei (+4500) have faded the most in the first two weeks.
  • Sep. 12: Ole Miss QB Matt Corral (+450) is now the second-favorite. Oregon RB CJ Verdell improved from +15000 to +2050 after leading the Ducks to a huge upset of Ohio State in Columbus.
  • Sep. 5: Alabama QB Bryce Young is the new favorite at +450 after lighting up Miami in Week 1.
  • Aug. 16: All the favorites faded a little as bettors (sensibly) shy away from short odds on an unpredictable award. Rattler went from +588 to +700. Uiagalelei went from +913 to +925. Young went from +963 to +1050. Daniels went from +1000 to +1200. And Stroud went from +1325 to +1500.
  • Aug. 9: Rattler, already the favorite, shortened from +625 to +588. Uiagalelei (+913) also saw his odds improve while Daniels faded from +950 to +1000.
  • Aug. 3: CJ Stroud appears to be in line to start under center at Ohio State and has jumped into the top-five, accordingly. His odds have improved from +5000 to +1325 since opening.
  • Apr. 23: Rattler has faded from +371 to +513 but remains the favorite. Second-favorite DJ Uiagalelei improved from +783 to +713.
  • Jan. 12: Georgia QB JT Daniels (+1225) has jumped Miami pivot D’Eriq King (+1375) for the final spot in the top five.
  • Jan. 5: Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler (+362) is favored over Alabama QB Bryce Young (+594), Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei (+800), and UNC QB Sam Howell (+967)

2020 Heisman Trophy Odds

Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith pulled off something nobody had done in nearly 30 years, becoming the first wideout to win the Heisman Trophy since Desmond Howard in 1991.

The 2020 race was a wild one during a COVID-shortened season. Florida QB Kyle Trask and Bama QB Mac Jones both held the favorite spot at different points.

Smith’s monster finish — including a 15-catch, 184-yard, 2-TD game against Florida in the SEC Championship — vaulted him past both QBs and locked up the trophy.

Below, see how the 2020 Heisman odds changed for Smith and the other top contenders over the course of the season.

2019 Heisman Trophy Odds

LSU’s Joe Burrow capped one of the greatest individual seasons in college football history by winning the 2019 Heisman Trophy in a landslide.

The Tigers QB pulled in 90.7% of first-place votes after throwing for 5,208 yards, 55 touchdowns, and just six interceptions.

Burrow wasn’t even on the radar entering the year. Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence were the runaway preseason favorites. Neither one wound up at the ceremony.

Burrow was joined as a finalist by Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts, Ohio State QB Justin Fields, and Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young.

Use the graphs below to track how the 2019 Heisman odds moved throughout the 2019 college football season.

2019 Heisman Odds Movement

  • [Dec. 9] No sportsbooks are offering Heisman futures any longer. The ceremony takes place this Saturday (Dec. 14) in New York.
  • [Dec. 2] A dominant performance from Justin Fields in “The Game” (302 passing yards, 4 TDs, 0 INTs) did little to eat into Burrow’s Heisman odds, which are still -2500.
  • [Nov. 26] Burrow looked great again and improved to a prohibitive -2500, but a huge comeback game from Chase Young makes him intriguing at +1400.
  • [Nov. 18] Another big day from Burrow shortened his odds to a season-best -1200. Fields (+800) and Hurts (+1000) sit second and third.
  • [Nov. 12] LSU’s Joe Burrow won the battle against Bama’s Tua Tagovailoa and is now a lock to win, according to oddsmakers, sitting at -820.
  • [Nov. 4] Chase Young shot up from +2500 to +850 … during a bye week.
  • [Oct. 29] Burrow has gotten even shorter (+110 on average) and is odds-on at some sites; meanwhile, Ohio State DE Chase Young (+2500) is finally on the board!
  • [Oct. 21] An injury to Tagovailoa sent his odds plummeting from -110 to +330 (on average), while Burrow is now the outright favorite at +130.
  • [Oct. 15] Another prolific week from Burrow (+280) against Florida has moved him ahead of Hurts (+370) into second.
  • [Oct. 8] Even though Jalen Hurts (+330) continues to put up huge numbers and Joe Burrow (+380) does likewise, Tua’s odds are now shorter than even money (-110).
  • [Sep. 30] Tua Tagovailoa, who was already the favorite, saw his odds get much shorter after a huge Week 5, going from +250 to +120.
  • [Sep. 24] This has turned into a thrilling three-horse race between Tagovailoa (+250), Burrow (+310), and Hurts (+350).
  • [Sep. 17] Trevor Lawrence is dropping out of contention. His current +570 odds are more than twice as long as they were in mid-August (+250).
  • [Sep. 12] Scratch what I just wrote about Burrow; bettors kept hammering him mid-week and he’s now +1200 on average, fourth-best in the nation.
  • [Sep. 9] If you bet on Joe Burrow before the season, you got your money in at the right time. The LSU pivot has gone from +15000 to +1800 since the odds first opened.
  • [Sep. 3] The odds moved significantly after Week 1, as expected. Some of the biggest risers were LSU QB Joe Burrow (+5200 to +3700), Clemson RB Travis Etienne (+2300 to +1900), and of course Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts (+900 to +700).
  • [Aug. 19] Almost every RB and WR saw his odds drop, most notably, Clemson WR Tee Higgins went from +3500 to +6300.
  • [Aug. 8] Ian Book is getting a lot of love, at least at some sites. He moved all the way up to +1600 at one site.
  • [Jul. 18] Texas QB Sam Ehlinger has entered the top ten for the first time this year, now at +1700.
  • [Jul. 3] Incoming Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts has consolidated his status as the third-favorite, moving from +790 to +690 as of early July.
  • [February] Trevor Lawrence and Tua Tagovailoa are the early favorites. Not coincidentally, they are the two QBs who met in last year’s CFP title game. All sportsbooks have Lawrence and Tagovailoa well ahead of the pack, with incoming Georgia transfer Justin Fields (Ohio State) a distant third.

2018 Heisman Trophy Odds

Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray pulled off one of the most dramatic late-season Heisman runs in recent memory, eclipsing heavy favorite Tua Tagovailoa at the last possible chance.

Tagovailoa held the top spot for most of the year as Alabama rolled to an undefeated regular season.

But Murray’s gaudy numbers (4,361 passing yards, 42 TDs, 7 INTs, plus 1,001 rushing yards and 12 more scores) and a Big 12 title win flipped the script in December. Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins rounded out the three finalists.
