Bills-Texans, Cowboys-Giants Headline NFL Sunday Opening Day

We all know the Buffalo Bills are Canada’s unofficial NFL team, so it should come as no surprise that there will be plenty of eyes on the squad north of the border. They’ll have a tough test to kick off the season as they head into enemy territory to face the Houston Texans, who finished last season 12-5 for second place in the AFC South division behind the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Bills are coming off more heartbreak as they lost in the AFC Divisional Round to the Denver Broncos in overtime earlier this year. Star quarterback and franchise backbone Josh Allen will be back in the driver’s seat in hopes of getting his squad to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994. One must think the clock is ticking for the Bills as Allen hopes his efforts as quarterback can rally the troops for a deep playoff run.

In the Sunday Night Football slot, the Dallas Cowboys head to MetLife Stadium for an NFC East showdown with the New York Giants. Of course, the Giants’ biggest acquisition of the offseason isn’t going to be on the gridiron but on the sidelines instead. They won the sweepstakes to get John Harbaugh as their head coach after a long tenure of success with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cowboys, meanwhile, have improved their defense on paper with the addition of linebacker Rashan Gary, the safety tandem of rookie Caleb Downs and veteran Jalen Thompson, and cornerback Cobie Durant. Though it remains to be seen how this will play out on the field, we’ll get a taste of Dallas’s new secondary today.
