New York online sports betting wrapped up a strong August as the Empire State barrels full-force into the fall and the football season.

The New York State Gaming Commission reported $1.43 billion bet online in August, with $401.4 million bet for the week ending Sept. 1. The state reported $124.9 million in gross gaming revenue for August, which led to more than $63.7 million in tax revenue.

DraftKings also had a successful month, topping FanDuel in terms of online handle for the first time since May.

Strong Week Leading into Lucrative Football Season

New York wrapped up August on a strong note as it moves into the most lucrative part of the sports betting year, as both the NFL and College Football had their first full weekends of action.

The gaming commission reported $401,420,347 in online sports betting handle for the week ending Sept. 1, the state’s highest weekly handle total since May. The gaming commission reported $30.4 million in gross gaming revenue.

DraftKings topped FanDuel in total handle for the month, reporting $526,657,397 in online sports betting handle in August compared with FanDuel’s $511,621,543. However, FanDuel still reported more gross gaming revenue than DraftKings for the month, noting $52,606,267 in revenue compared with DraftKings’ $43,304,282.

The New York State Gaming Commission releases handle and revenue reports for its eight live NY sports betting apps, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel, BetMGM, Fanatics Sportsbook, Bally Bet, Resorts World Bet, and BetRivers, at the conclusion of each week.

Here are the handle breakdowns for the nine sportsbooks for the week ending Sept. 1:

ESPN BET is slated to come to New York soon  after securing market access through a $25 million deal for WSI US, LLC, from Wynn Interactive Holdings. WynnBET is no longer operating in the state. However, PENN Entertainment CEO Jay Snowden said the new operator would launch in late August, prior to the start of the college football season. However, the first two weeks of college football have already come and gone, the first week of the NFL is almost finished, and the state still has no access to ESPN BET.

The NFL has one more game on tap this week, the Jets vs. the 49ers, so perhaps ESPN BET will launch tonight.

Here are the total handles for the nine sportsbooks since New York’s Jan. 8, 2022 launch. FanDuel is the only operator in the state to eclipse $19 billion in total handle so far.

  • FanDuel: $19,919,794,594
  • DraftKings: $16,387,926,411
