  • Sportsbook promises not to limit customers

The crowded Ohio online sports betting market is getting a little busier today.

Prime Sports, the newest Ohio online sportsbook, will launch in the Buckeye State this afternoon at 1 p.m. It will be the 19th Ohio online sportsbook to go live in the state since January’s sports betting launch.

The operator is partnered with the SPIRE Institute for a potential brick-and-mortar sportsbook in the future.

Prime Sports Will Not Limit Customers

The Ohio Casino Control Commission previously approved Prime Sports for online and retail sports betting in the state.

Prime Sports, the brainchild of sports betting hall of famer and industry veteran Joe Brennan Jr. and Adam Bjorn, chief operating officer at Plannatech, has publicly noted that it will not restrict what its sports betting customers  can wager and will plainly mark maximum bet amounts for each event it offers.

Each event will have a maximum betting amount that will be enforced for every customer on the Prime Sports platform. Sports betting operators will sometimes tailor the maximum amount of a betting market to a user depending on how they play or their betting history on the sports betting app.

The operator will be live first in Ohio, but has plans to expand to Kentucky and New Jersey in the near future.

Partnering with SPIRE Institute

Prime Sports has partnered with the SPIRE Institute, a 750,000-square-foot facility that serves as a training complex and boarding school for elite youth athletes, for brick-and-mortar sports betting in the state. The Institute received conditional approval for two Ohio sports betting licenses at a late 2022 Ohio Casino Control Commission meeting.

The SPIRE Institute originally partnered with Out the Gate LLC for its sports betting services.

The SPIRE Institute offers training programs for Olympians, elite youth athletes, professional athletes and Paralympians. It also hosts the SPIRE Academy, which serves as a boarding school for high school students and recent graduates.

Rachel Winder, an advisor to SPIRE Institute and Government Relations Manager to Benesch Law, previously told Sports Betting Dime that SPIRE Institute will keep its sports betting plans wholly separate from its athletic facility.

Geneva Sports’ original application lists 1752 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio, as its location for a proposed sports betting or gaming operation. The facility was most recently a restaurant, Chops Grille and Tap House, and is located adjacent to the SPIRE Institute.
