Resorts World New York City is set to open New York City’s first ever live table game commercial casino.
Resorts World New York City will open its first ever live table game casino on Tuesday, April 28, pending final testing and approval from the New York State Gaming Commission this week. The facility, located next to the Aqueduct Racetrack, will initially offer more than 240 table games including blackjack, craps, baccarat, roulette, and thousands of slot machines.
The New York State Gaming Commission approved Bally’s Bronx, Hard Rock Metropolitan Park at Willets Point, and Resorts World New York City in Queens, for conditional gaming licenses in December 2025.
First New York City Commercial Casino
The opening will mark the first-ever New York City commercial casino. The casino opening will feature more than 1,500 blackjack, craps, baccarat, and roulette gaming positions, plus over 2,500 slot machines.
Thousands more are scheduled to come on line this year.
“New York City has never seen anything like what we’re planning for April 28. Once the Gaming Commission’s final testing is complete, live table games will be open and operating right here in Queens for the first time in the history of New York City. We are ready to welcome New Yorkers to this exciting new experience,” said Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting Americas East, in a released statement.
At the official opening, Genting Chairman KT Lim and hip-hop legend NAS will be joined elected officials, community leaders, and entertainers for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and ceremonial throw of the first dice.
The new casino resulted in 1,250 new jobs for the city, including 950 new table-game dealers, with the facility currently employing more than 2,200 people, according to Resorts World. The employment number is estimated to hit over 2,700 employees by the summer.
“Resorts World now employees over 2,200 team members and have already doubled our workforce and expect thousands more team members as the integrated resort is developed over the next three years. This is a transformational moment for Resorts World New York City, and we cannot wait to share it with our fellow New Yorkers,” DeSalvio said.
Resorts World First to Open in NYC
Resorts World is the first of three companies awarded downstate New York casino licenses to open their facility in 2025.
The New York State Gaming Commission unanimously approved all three casino projects for conditional licenses this past December. All three projects were approved on the condition that they execute a monitoring agreement with an independent third party acceptable to the commission for five years upon on the date of the license.
Resorts World will construct a $5.5 billion, 5.6 million-square-foot casino in Queens; Bally’s Bronx will construct a $4 billion, 3 million-square-foot facility in the Bronx; and Metropolitan Park, a partnership between Steve Cohen and Hard Rock International, will construct an $8 billion casino and open space project on 50-acres of an asphalt parking lot at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.
New York State Gaming Commission received eight applications for downstate casino licenses from 2023 through 2024. The original applicants were as follows:
- Bally’s Bronx
- Hard Rock Metropolitan Park
- Resorts World New York City
- MGM Empire City
- Caesars Palace Times Square
- Freedom Plaza
- The Avenir
- The Coney
MGM Empire City, which many believed to be a frontrunner for a casino license, unexpectedly withdrew its license bid in October.
