Emanuel Navarrete’s Aim for Another Title

Navarrete vacated his WBO junior featherweight title in July with aspirations to move up a weight class and collect further gold. The belt was initially vacated by Shakur Stevenson who moved up himself as he journeyed to junior lightweight.

The former WBO 122-pound champion Navarrete has carved out a three-fight win streak in his new division with his last fight taking place against journeyman Uriel Lopez in June of this year.

Navarrete is regarded as the most active reigning champion in boxing and is looking to maintain that traction his Friday night.

Villa is currently ranked at #3 by the WBO in the 126-pound class and, in his last fight (Jan. 2020), bested Alexei Collado via unanimous decision to defend the WBO international title.

Ruben Villa looks to maintain his spotless record as he vaults towards that world-title level with the organization now.

Ruben Villa’s World Title Dream in Salinas

Despite being an 18-0 title contender, Villa is feeling largely disrespected by the boxing community heading into this fight.

The local support in his community though is palpable and his hometown is electrified by the notion of one of their own competing for world championship glory.

Ruben Villa has told his trainers that it has been his dream since childhood to bring a world title back to Salinas, California. He has a chance to actualize the boyhood dream into reality when he steps through the ropes tomorrow night.

Villa has a more extensive amateur resume, is a southpaw, and seems to be the physically larger man. It makes sense that Ruben Villa is the underdog here but he’s certainly not some walkover opponent.

Main Card Picks for Navarrete vs Villa

  1. Bryan Lua vs Nelson Colon: Lua is an unbeaten prospect on the rise while Colon has a bit of a lopsided record. All three of Lua’s career knockouts have come in his last three outings and I think he extends that to four tomorrow.  Lua wins via stoppage inside of four rounds. Pick: Bryan Lua (-5000)
  2. Elvis Rodriguez vs Cameron Krael: Rodriguez has a one hundred percent knockout rate across his 9 pro wins but his durable veteran opponent Krael has only been finished once as a professional. Rodriguez will record his tenth pro knockout here and secures the finish inside of five rounds. Pick: Elvis Rodriguez (-2250)
