Emanuel Navarrete vs Francisco De Vaca hails from Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles this Saturday (Aug. 17, 10:00 PM ET). The twelve-round contest is for the WBO world super bantamweight title.
Navarette is ranked number one in his division per BoxRec and this is reflected in the moneyline odds heading into Saturday. Find said odds, bout breakdown, and fight prediction below.
Navarrete vs De Vaca Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Emanuel Navarrete | -3500 |
Francisco De Vaca | +1200 |
*Odds taken 08/13/19.
Emanuel Navarrete (27-1, 23 KO) hasn’t lost in seven years and only has one blemish on his pro record. Though De Vaca (20-0, 6 KO) does have a spotless record and also won the vacant NABF junior super-bantamweight title, it doesn’t tell the full story. It’s a classic Top Rank promotional tactic to feed an unbeaten fighter who seems to have a commensurate level of experience to the streaking champion.
Upon closer examination though, you realize the challenger doesn’t have much in the ways of a truly significant statement win. De Vaca hasn’t had a chance to prove where he’s really at in a world champion/title contender context and this fight will be a huge test for him, one I don’t think he’ll pass.
Navarrete’s Power Will Make the Difference
The KO rates inform how this fight will likely go. De Vaca has a 30-percent knockout rate while the champion sits at an 82-percent knockout rate. The scariness in his punching power is further bolstered by the graphic nature of Navarrete’s last fight. His last bout was a drubbing of Isaac Dogboe, a fight many pundits thought could have been stopped way earlier based on the connectivity rate and alarming power that Navarrete was generating.
The magnitude of platforms these two have fought on also plays a role in all of this. Navarrete has competed in some huge venues throughout Mexico, fought at Madison Square Garden, and continues his advance into the American market with this fight.
On the other hand, this is a huge step up for De Vaca, who has largely been groomed on the Phoenix circuit, becoming a strong local draw at Celebrity Theater.
Navarrete also possesses a reach advantage which further compounds the notion that the champion will have his way in this bout.
Navarrete vs De Vaca Tale of the Tape
 27-1 | Record | 20-0 |
23 | Knockouts | 6 |
5’7 | Height | 5’7 |
 72″ | Reach | 65.5″ |
Isaac Dogboe, Jesus Serrano, Luis Bedolla Orozco | Significant Wins | Victor Proa, Jesus Serrano, Jesus Navarro |
orthodox | Stance | orthodox |
Both of these Mexican fighters will look to embrace the stereotypical hard-charging, uber aggressive Mexican style on Saturday night, and that will play into Navarrete’s powerful hands. I have Navarrete scoring a TKO or outright knockout inside of seven rounds.
Pick: Navarrete (-3500)
