  • Gervonta Davis vs Yuriorkis Gamboa goes Saturday, December 28th at 10:00 pm EST
  • Can Davis secure yet another prolific knockout victory?
  • Will Gamboa score his most significant victory in years?

Davis vs Gamboa will be the first world title fight held in Atlanta in over 20 years as the vacant WBA world lightweight championship is on the line inside State Farm Arena.

Gamboa is a gold medalist out of Cuba who brings with him tremendous power that has resonated through several weight divisions. He has a tough task ahead of him though as he must put the first blemish on the record of a man who has proven to be an absolute bulldozer.

The odds for this fight and my analysis of the bout are below.

Gervonta Davis vs Yuriorkis Gamboa Odds

Fighter Odds
Gervonta Davis -2250
Yuriorkis Gamboa +950

Pundits are predicting that this will be an exciting fight and likely won’t go the distance. These two 135-pounders always bring it, and have historically put on very crowd-pleasing fights. Davis has a pseudo-home field advantage here as he tends to train and periodically live in Atlanta.

One could presume that he will get the partisan support of the crowd. Davis has steamrolled every opponent he has faced so far. I can see Davis trucking Gamboa this weekend and keeping the trend going.

Davis Scores Yet Another KO Win

Gamboa’s championship history is at featherweight while Davis has had multiple reigns at super-featherweight. Lightweight is a more natural weight class for Davis and Gamboa enters this bout as the undersized underdog.

Gamboa is confident that he has faced power punchers who bring something similar to the table that Davis does.  He feels like his experience will win him the day. He’s looking to play spoiler and put the kibosh on tentative plans for Davis vs Lomachenko.

Davis enters this fight with a remarkable 96 percent knockout rate. He has had KO victories in all but one of his pro bouts and is undefeated. Gamboa can crack too despite not having the same KO percentage.

Both men secured second-round stoppages in their last bouts with Davis and Gamboa putting away Ricardo Nunez and Roman Martinez respectively.

Davis has tremendous star potential that can only grow and flourish with time. His record and style speak for itself but it also is reflected on the management side of things. Floyd Mayweather Jr is Davis’ promoter and this will surely lend itself to many more people becoming fans of Davis over the years.

Davis has been justifiably criticized over the last few years for facing some dubious opposition. This Gamboa bout is one you cannot call into question – this is very much a legit test for Davis.

That being said, I think Davis secures the stoppage victory inside of six rounds.

Pick: Gervonta Davis (-2250)
